What Anouk W doesn't like about Art Café Bistro:
The quality of the food was good, but the proportions were way off, there was too little salmon in the the salmon salad (it was mostly lettuce) and the beef bourguignons (which was mostly potatoes, garlic bread, and mushrooms). The prices were too expensive for what we got. View all feedback.
Luckily we booked, we saw a few customers being turned away! Good food selection with decent pricing. It's a small family run restaurant with homemade options. They recommended the national dish, which is the lamb stew and it's amazing! The chicken caesar salad was okay. The place was a little warm inside.
Great food. It's not a café nor bistro. It's restaurant, so if you want just a coffee or small bite, choose a different place. Also if you want to be sure you'll have a spot, make a reservation, it's really small. Which is not a bad thing, it makes the atmosphere of the place much cosier.
I came by two times to try and dine at this spot both times they said they were fully booked when there was only one party dining there. Not sure why they would turn away customers if they didn 't have a reservation when the whole restaurant was empty both times I stopped by check the photo I snapped when the waitress rudely said they are fully booked. Art Café should really work on how they prioritize their bookings and walk in customers and be a bit nicer in how they speak to customers.
Food was great, service was exceptional! Great place for our first meal in Tromso. Ambiance was excellent
Spent three days in Tromso, and dined here twice...we couldn 't stay away! Amazing food and exceptional service. I would call it traditional fare with an artisanal flair. Right from the start: really good table water with fresh citrus hints, homemade bread and herbed butter. How can salad be THAT good? Parma ham and blue cheese salad Such fresh ingredients that pair wonderfully together. Don 't be deceived by the presentation, portion sizes are large. One salad is plenty to two to share. Entrees were all excellently prepared. We had risotto, beef bourguignon, mushroom pasta and spaghetti bolognese. All were wonderful and filling. We complemented our meals with the house wines. We aren 't wine snobs, but we enjoy a good grape. House white was organic French chardonnay and red was a lovely Italian, both only $12 US, that 's very inexpensive compared to our US prices. This keep the cost down and allows a splurge on the amazing dessert and coffee. The homemade chocolate cake was the BEST I have ever tasted. Dense, moist and not to sweet. Start to finish, an amazing experience, all surrounded by beautiful art and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Absolutely make a reservation! There are only six tables, with seating for about 20. They seem to take reservations seriously, and won 't try to squeeze in someone from off the street if they have reserved the table. For non Norwegians, no worries you will be welcomed and comfortable. Reservations (phone call), menu and service all in English. This is a MUST stop whenever you find yourself in Tromso!
