What Laurie Otto doesn't like about Tokeland Hotel & Restaurant:
We came here with a large group last Friday. The people that worked there were very friendly. However, the restaurant itself was not clean. I am an animal lover, however, I do not appreciate having dogs and cats roaming inside the restaurant as are eating. We had a sweet, old dog begging for food. As cute as he is, it’s not OK. There was also a cat going in and out of the kitchen. My sister-in-law was walking to the... View all feedback.
I'm stunned at how terrible things were. Abysmal quality; absolutely no seasoning, no salt, no flavor, seafood bordering rancid, shrimp rubbery and black and white, not cooked by someone who can cook at all. The shrimp was stinky and not like fresh shrimp, it was slimy. Look...I'm an easily pleased man. I almost never give a place one star, because that's for the worst. Happiness is somewhere in the middle, that's how to be happy in life, but nothing about my meal was even remotely acceptable. I'm easy to please. I find happiness in a burger and a beer. Tonight was my second year anniversary, it was a big deal but I didn't have large expectations. I wasn't expecting fan fare, but for $225.00, I expected something with SALT...with SEASONING...with something...ANYTHING. It had nothing in it. There was only pepper. Even the fried green tomatoes had almost zero salt. They were way too thick and still hard on the inside, completely uncooked, and only one slice was good. It had to be dipped to cover up the total lack of taste. It was thin, that's why it was good. The seafood, save for bad fish, was the worst example of seafood I have ever experienced in my entire life. I eat it regularly. The shrimp was rubbery, hard, dry and above all else, I think it was about to spoil. It smelled off, it tasted faintly like the smell of pee and also, weirdly fishy. I've had shrimp a hundred times in my life, but never that bad, NEVER. 0 out of 10. Those green tomatoes? I've had these before. I raved about them. These were very poor. I would say 4 out of 10. I've been wanting to go here for years. I'm so upset, I want to cry! I spent 225.00 on the two of us and I had to work all week to afford this. I worked so hard for that money! The only thing I could eat, was the desert which was a perfect 10. Why was it so incredibly bad?! I asked the waitress to ask the cook to make me something, to surprise me. I figured with all the hype around town about this big city chef, who makes extraordinary food, that having chef make me something they were comfortable with, would inspire them to do their own thing. I figured, go with whatever Chef is down with, bring it Chef! It was revolting. That was a slap to the face. I feel like I know why Gordon Ramsay is so mean now. I would have got better food at 2 AM from a Dennys. I would have had better food...anywhere...it was some of the worst food I've ever had from an establishment in 41 years of life. The drinks were quite good, the beer and cider, extraordinary, the cocktails were darn good too! Our customer service was exemplary. Beer and Cider the rare, perfect 10. Customer Service a rare, perfect 10. But for one caveat ...no one would pick up phone...and I've been trying to call for ages. I *even* tried to call DURING BUSINESS HOURS today before our arrival. No one picked up. This went on for days. I was told BY THEIR RESTURANT STAFF that this is usually what happens, and they turn the volume down *on purpose* so they don't have to pick up the phone. The woman TOLD ME THIS. I was also told they ignore the customers calling, on purpose. This came FROM THE STAFF inside the restaurant. I'm horrified by this behavior. When I arrived, there seemed to only be ONE other party the entire night, inside the dinning room anyway. One man told me he wanted to share with me. I couldn't believe how much love this man's food was cooked with. It was gorgeous. My date, everything on her plate was excellent. Everything I got was absolutely revolting, and the fact that they joke about ignoring customers calling about things? That's sick! Just keep it to yourself! I'm going to blast this all over. I'm disgusted.
Every trip we take to Washington's coast, we make sure we dine at the Wondering Goose located in the Tokeland Hotel. The atmosphere, hospitality and the food are FANTASTIC!
We had dinner here twice on a recent trip. The five stars is mostly for the food and site itself. It was amazing. Tasted like I was eating home cooked delightfulness. The art and decor is perfectly suited for the building/vibe. The service was stellar the first night and good the second night. Mostly because second night was busier. It won't stop us from going here again. It's a special place.
Delicious lunch great music friendly service on a relaxing Friday on the coast. Check out the art, the creatures, the view!
The food here is some of the best there is in all of Wa. state. I love staying in Westport and I always find my way to Tokeland. I went down in March Or April of this year. The goal of my vacation was to buy a hummingbird cake. I bought half a cake and thought some might make it into my freezer. Never happened! The service is also great. Should you decide on the biscuits and gravy, you might want half an order. I have never had a bad meal. I am from the SE and I have found few restaurants in Washington that I really enjoy. It's good for my waistline that I live 4 hrs. away.
