I read the reviews for this restaurant before making a reservation, and although some weren’t great, I decided to give it a shot because I like to form my own opinion. I'm glad I did because this place truly deserves a positive review! My expectations were low, but they were definitely exceeded. It’s a charming family pub with a relaxed atmosphere. Most importantly, the food was excellent—well-priced, good portion si... View all feedback.
What donna w doesn't like about The Essex Skipper:
Awful Xmas dinner , frozen veg aunt Bessie’s roast potatoes and turkey was the processed meat , cheese board a joke 5 Crackers frozen butter and the thinly sliced cheese you could ever imagine, nice pub but definitely wouldn’t eat here again View all feedback.
Absolutely fantastic, the meal was beautiful, the staff is amazing. warm, clean and welcoming atmosphere. can not wait to return, it will be our regular safe.
Food was lovely. Service was quick, simple and friendly. All that you would expect from your local, even managed to get in to take advantage of the 2 for £20 deal. Shame to see some customers expectations are ridiculous, but team handled the situation well.
Fantastic atmosphere. We went over the Jubilee weekend. Great food, great music. The children enjoyed the bouncy castle. Staff were very friendly.
A Monday lunch visit in November was quiet but the service was excellent and the food good. Portion sizes are large with a selection of pub favourites mixed with curry and fajita options. The beef fajitas was enough for two people, delivered sizzling to the table with two wraps. The steak and ale pie is huge with the option of chips or mash (the mash is under the pie) with more veg than you could wish for. The hunters chicken was ok...not the best and light on BBQ sauce. Recommended. Book in advance on busier days.
She eventually offered to bring a single side of chips, but I had to ask for an empty plate to move the meat to because I have an allergy to salad and dressing. As a result, I ended up eating about 80% of the meat on its own, which was dry and overcooked, before the chips even arrived. There was no apology offered and it seemed pointless to ask for a manager since all the staff were quite young. While the place has been renovated, it was surprisingly empty. With such poor service and food quality, I certainly won’t be returning anytime soon!
