The dining room is in a dining car of an old train. The tables are so close together, you can practically rub elbows with the diners three tables over. All conversations can be heard from the car. I usually don’t post reviews because I know many are false or put here by staff or friends, and skewed to the positive. This is my honest opinion. We paid $50 for a meal worth $15. The much-hyped pizza as eerily similar to the ones you get at the frozen section of local supermarkets. The chowder looked and tasted like it was made with skim milk. My Daughter and I Loved the setting, and it was Clean. However the menu was pricey and the flavour (quality) was only decent, our waitress was robotic despite this she forgot to tell us about the daily special even though we were asking questions. She lacked personality and looked unprofessional. I do not like writing non stellar reviews but felt obligated.
We went for lunch on a weekday, and arrived before it got busy. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress and the service was good throughout our meal. We had flatbread sandwiches that were wonderful, with a very tasty dressing to drizzle on them. The old dining car is an interesting piece of Canadian History.
Make a reservation to avoid disappointment. Enjoy good food and friendly service in a dining car. Menu available online. Food is prepared homemade and using local fresh ingredients as per season. Make sure to try the homemade pie and various desserts. Stop in the gift shop for some kitschy wares. Railfans and Ferroequinologists can stay overnight!
Covid restrictions mean no dining in the car itself, but it’s worth getting takeout and eating at a table on the “Platform”
