We recently came here for Yum Cha. The dumplings were delicious and the owner suggested some extra dishes which were indeed well chosen. The owner was extremely charming and friendly and was only too happy to chat and give suggestions on dishes. The waitresses were also very friendly. I would certainly go back for another yum cha or perhaps dinner next time. I'm glad we now have a good yum cha restaurant in St Ives. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Lan Yuan:
We went to Lan Yuan over eight months ago and were very disappointed. At the urging of friends we recently went again. Unfortunately the food has not improved during that period and still tastes and looks like it has been pre cooked. Our duck spring rolls were served within a couple of minutes of being ordered and were so hot (as in temperature) that you could not eat them. To get them this hot, were they microwaved?... Not sure if this restaurant has recently been taken over as it is now called Silk. My wife and I were with another couple and we were shown to our table by a friendly staff member and asked if we wished to order drinks, which we did. The good service ended there. The serving of the meals was very disappointing, with them all being delivered to the table at different intervals. On a positive note, the quality and presentation of the food was excellent. It now came time to pay the bill which was $161.00 for the four of us. With a tip we increased it to $170.00. On arrival at the counter we asked for $85.00 to be taken off each of two credit cards. We were advised that they do not accept split bills. At this point I made the following comment to a member of the staff. You have two choices, you either accept $85.00 from each credit card or we walk out of here with a free meal as we have no cash We were then told that there was a card in the window prior to entering the restaurant that stated they do not accept split bills. Also a card at the counter where you pay the bill stating the same. I would point out at this time that the card in the window was in the bottom of the right hand window and not at the main double door central entrance to the restaurant. Eventually after a long argument with a staff member who kept saying that their system couldn 't handle splitting a bill in two, a miracle happened, he split the bill in two. WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN, Which is a pity, as the quality of food is very good.
Ate at the Silk Chinese previously known as Lan Yuan. So much better!!!! Food was tasty, more affordable and definitely not greasy. Friendly staff. We had long beans with pork, pork ribs and lemon chicken with special fried rice. Also have many specials and good assortment of seafood. Definitely give them a go
Very enjoyable. Food was nice and we didn’t have to wait long for food to be served. Staff was very friendly
Been here before but as they had new owners thought I’d give it a go again. Well not much has changed with a good quality serving but at a high price tag. As a example the fried rice is $25, which is the price of a main course. I Can say the food quality was good however the service level as confused. No one appeared to know who was servicing us and we ended up with 4 different people assisting us. Parking outside the front door in St Ives shopping centre car park. Nice meal but not rushing back
Under new management, friendly service, good food . Easy parking in shopping centre car park. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Dim Sum and sizzling beef with oyster sauce excellent .
