La Bastiglia - SPELLO

This restaurant is top class the food is excellent ! The service is good and the view from the terrace at night is superb. Well worth a visit .

The restaurant is actually quite big. Nice ambiance. Has an extensive wine list. Great desserts. Good value for your money.

Four of us were delighted to find this restaurant open (with a fire burning) on a cold day. Rumour had it that it had closed. Although it no longer has a Michelin star, I believe it worthy of one because the food was superb. I chose eggplant polpette to start and followed with truffle pasta, both excellent. The rabbit main course was reportedly delicious as was the beef cheek. There were no dairy free deserts. Service was discreet and friendly, Sangiovese wine pleasant.

La bastiglia is at the very top of Spello. Good parking was available on the street as well as on the property. Service didn’t begin until 8:30 but we were invited to have a drink in front of a beautiful stone fireplace. Four of us chose different specialities to share and we’re pleased with all. The steak was cooked medium rare, pork and lamb dishes were cooked Umbrian style. Pastas handmade. The wine steward recommended several local wines that were delicious and surprisingly inexpensive. It was too cool to sit outside, but they have a lovely and very inviting terrace. I could imagine it on a summer night,
