Every time we have a ramen carving we come to this place. We are big fans of this unassuming neighborhood restaurant. The service is outstanding. The place is impecable. What Nancy McCartney doesn't like about Shimuja Ramen:
Great depth of flavor in ramen broth and perfectly cooked noodles! Unfortunately, their onigiri had way too much rice and too little filling, and they didn't season the rice with sushi rice seasoning. Gyoza we're just ok. Katsudon was pretty good but notamazing. The food is very good overall. Very solid with a good balance of flavor and spice. The real reason for the 3 stars and not 4 is the service, which was surprising. Many other reviews said the service was good. But we were the second group (party of 2) to be seated; there were about 4 other parties that ordered after us and received their food before us, all ramen dishes. Then when asking the server about the delay her response that it is crowded vs acknowledging the lateness as if we were the last group to arrive.
I never write reviews but I am just so disappointed with the food I picked up tonight. We paid $20 and got 2 little slivers of pork and a bunch of overcooked hardened up noodles. The broth is okay but really nothing special. With the economy how it is right now it's just disgusting to rip someone off just trying to have a nice meal.
I was craving for ramen after attending a car show. Found this place not too far from it. The pan fried pork dumplings were tasty. Their Satsuma Tonkotsu pork broth ramen was great. The noodles were cooked just right, pork was tender, and the broth was flavorful. Definitely a ramen spot to check out! Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
