By far the best breakfast I’ve ever had!! Apple cinnamon French toast is amazing! Homemade biscuits! The ham is unbelievable! It is not your average grocery store ham!! View all feedback.
What Daniel Flanders doesn't like about Fat Carl's Breakfast:
Not concerned about basic COVID precautions.. sign on the door suggesting people don’t have to wear masks while indoor dining. Believe me, you don’t wanna eat out of kitchens that don’t follow simple safety standards. Good way to get sick. Never going here again. View all feedback.
This business has a sign posted on the building, closed for the season due to covid. Do not waste your time

This place seemed promising at first. Although there was a long wait, we sat and chatted with the owner and played with the house dogs I wish Tuesday the best and most fabulous next few months on earth). The food was great, as was the dining room atmosphere. As our meal went on though the server/owner seem to get more and more short with us. We blew it off as an end of the breakfast rush tiredness that I know ALL too well from many years of serving. We tipped well and went about our way. We decided to go back the next morning for breakfast and were met with such rudeness from the same owner/server. After being seated at our table we all 4 decided that we should leave. My two aunts were appalled and honestly sad at the reaction they received from this lady, and this made me sad, as my aunts are such sweet people. This lady did explain to us the day before that the spruce lodge and restaurant were up for sale and that they were selling it because they were tired . I get that, but you are still in the service industry providing a service. Why give up on that in the home stretch? Pay attention potential buyers! As frequent travelers from Denver to the southwest corner of Colorado, we will never again stop at this place. Tiny Timbers down the road which the owner sent some customers to too close to closing time on the first day) will be our pit stop and morning eatery in South Fork.
Great place for a traditional breakfast! giant and delicious meals! animal lovers will have a heartfelt appreciation for this little gem :
Hands down my favorite ma pa breakfast spot. Animal lovers will have a heartfelt appreciation for this gem! We picked this place bc of the name! Fat Carl 's I was thinking it was the chef or owner but whoever, if they are 'fat ' someone is feeding someone right! The food was great, I couldn 't finish my meal and I sooooo wanted to eat all of it!! But there is more to this place besides a great traditional breakfast joint..... We walked up to this sweet old lodge and we are greeted by 2 dogs who are sleeping on the porch and a black cat strutting his stuff. We greet the dogs (we are very much dog people) with big smiles and a friendly pat. I am already smiling and it made us feel like we were visiting family.... we walk in, mmmmmm it smells like breakfast. It looks and feels like grandma 's. Clean, well kept, appropriate decor, very inviting and comfortable.... We go around the corner to a sweet dining room with maybe 8 booths... we were greeted with smiles (under a mask) and seated. Its clean and inviting, decorated like granny 's...., and did I say that it smelt like mmmmm breakfast..... We start looking through the menu which has all your traditional breakfast items and I start laughing like am I really reading this right.... (I still think Fat Carl is some guy) we order French toast and 1/2 order biscuits and gravy. Something told me to keep my menu and I 'm glad I did.... I flipped the menu (that al ready had literally made me LOL) and found out about Fat Carl.... it was a sweet and funny autobiography of this fat cat, Fat Carl, that ended with a beautiful note.... 'Enjoy the company of the people you are with. After all, you humans only get 1 life. Take it from somebody who 's lived 8.... ' We will be back, no doubt. ANIMAL LOVERS MUST STOP HERE. Fat Carl 's, keep doing what your doing!! Great food, best employees and great little lodge. A we will always support your little gem!
