With friends, nice afternoon. had a nice lunch, with good food and excellent service.
The best local restaurant. We don't go there often but when we do we make the best of it.
Sophie's Bistro is a charming little French restaurant that has won the hearts of many diners with its welcoming atmosphere, friendly team, and delicious food. The consistency of the dining experience is often praised by repeat customers who always leave satisfied. The menu boasts amazing French dishes, with highlights such as the mushroom puffed pastry appetizer, the braised lamb shank, and a variety of decadent desserts. The owner is known to be enthusiastic about his wines, enhancing the overall dining experience. The food was delicious. Just like I remembered it pre-pandemic. You have to try the mushrooms dish, which is mouth-watering. If you like fresh escargot with garlic, then this is the place for you as well. There is a great full menu as well. I'll have to try something else very soon. Enjoy.
A great local eatery right by Rutgers University, New Brunswick hospitals and many of the local towns. This French based restaurant as an amazing array of foods and appetizers. If you are brave you can try the snails or if you try one of their many fish dishes, pasta or steak. The food does not disappoint.
A really nice environment and lighting for a dinner date or family dinner! 2 person bill was nearly $250–yikes. Only suggestion would be pricing better for the food quality, improve table-side service, and having consistent plumbing.

The owner is extremely gracious and the wait staff on whole professional. Food was very good
As usual, an incredible experience at Sophie’s. The food was fantastic. There was a cream of carrot and ginger soup that I could eat for days. Perfect blend of the two flavors. I had the duck and my husband had the cassoulet. Both were perfection. Dessert was the crème brûlée and we devoured it. Highly recommend this place for a date night or even a group dinner.
Outstanding food and service. Unfortunately we sat next to a very loud and nosey couple. The wife listened to other couple’s conversations and injected herself into those conversations. Fortunately they left halfway through our meal and we were able to relax and enjoy the remainder of the evening. This is not our first visit and it will not be our last.

Me and my boyfriend came here for Valentines Day and it did not dissapoint. The waitress was super sweet and dressed like a clown which made it more fun! Everything we tried was super delicious, i got the mahi mahi and asparagus and my bf got the shrimp and duck for appetizers and entree. Honestly everything was plated so beautifully and every bite was packed with soo much flavor, it was just perfect, I highly recommend! The chef also greeted us at the end of our meal and thanked us for coming which to me shows just how much he loves his restaurant and was very friendly as well. Thank you to everyone that made this experience a 10 out of 10 for us! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Fantastic French cuisine restaurant. I went for brunch and enjoyed their mussels, French onion soup, seafood puff pastry, and duck confit salad. Perfectly crafted cocktails and delectable wine. Two desserts: crème brûlée and a blueberry cake. Server provided us a complimentary home made digestif. Low lit ambiance with French jazz and classic pop songs enhanced our dining experience. I thought I’ve reviewed Sophie’s Bistro before and have no picture to share of the excellent food, service, and ambiance they offer. This restaurant has been open for 21 years, amazing and there’s a reason it’s still around. It’s unpretentiouswhich, in relation to French food, many find surprising, the food is wonderful, the staff is beyond good, and I think a lot ofthat has to do with the owner Peter who stopped by our table a few times, once to see if we were enjoying ourselves and thenwith a complimentary after dinner aperitif and stayed to chat a bit about the establishment. I can not say enough about why youshould go, just go!
Came here with my family for the seafood broil. Service was fantastic. 5 stars for that alone. We ordered a couple of drinks we did not like and our sever was so attentive and noticed we didn't enjoy them and replaced them with another order. I orderedthe clam chowder which was absolutely delicious. My favorite thing on the menu. I also ordered the crab cake which was alsogreat. My family ordered 2 other dishes which I can't remember the names of and they liked them. The apple pie was OK,wouldn't recommend and the profiteroles were good. Overall, highly recommend. Very friendly staff with speedy and fantasticservice. We'll be back!
Charming French spot with excellent baguettes and breads. Their drink selection is great—my favorite was the French 77. I thoroughly enjoyed the eggs Benedict, especially with all the spinach! The service was excellent; the staff did a fantastic job!
We visited Sophie’s Bistro for the first time on a Saturday evening around 7 pm. Without a reservation, we ended up sitting at the bar, which turned out to be a fantastic spot. From the moment we were warmly greeted by the hostess until we left, the service was flawless. The bartender was incredibly busy but remained attentive, polite, friendly, and cheerful throughout. The owner stopped by for a chat—such a genuinely nice person! The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was perfect, the wine excellent, and the desserts and coffee provided a wonderful end to our meal. The owner even treated us to a homemade digestif made with rum, cane sugar, vanilla, and banana, which was simply delightful. We will definitely be returning! What a wonderful gem in New Jersey!
Five stars without a doubt. I used to dine here often when I lived in New Brunswick. I'm not sure why we stopped, but we ended up back here for dinner last night. I'm happy to say the food is still amazing. Peter was very friendly, checked in on us, gave us a tour of the new dining area, and I truly enjoyed the whole experience. Looking forward to returning!
