We had an outstanding experience at Roka Old Orchard and the food was excellent: Seared Diver Scallops: perfectly seared, moist, fresh and flavorful Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll and Snow Crab Avocado rolls: fresh tasting and contained the perfect amount of sushi rice. Beet Salad: the jalapeno miso dressing is fantastic. Fresh greens and beets with very nice presentation. Prime Beef Dumplings: served piping hot and the fil... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Roka Akor Old Orchard:
I've been to the Roka Akor in Chicago and had amazing food. This one, not at all. The miso soup, brussel sprouts, 5 piece nigiri selection mushroom and truffle rice were all very disappointing. Flavor was missing in every dish. 2 out of 5 of the nigiri was so hard to chew I had to spit them out. The mushroom and truffle rice did not taste like truffle at all, just a mushy, unseasoned rice. I would've rather returned them but we were so hungry and trying to make it to the movies on time that we ate 1/2 of our food and decided to eat something else a little later. The server was great but I won't be returning to either location.
All three of us ordered the Decadent Omakase meal which is 5 courses of food: 2 appetizers (a scallop and also waygu beef rolls), a sashimi tray, a fish course (lobster and cod that night), a meat course (tenderloin and lambs chops that night) and dessert. It was all outstanding. Every dish was fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented and was centered on high quality ingredients. The wait staff were knowledgeable and attentive. And it was enjoyable to sit back, relax and enjoy what the chef had chosen to prepare that evening. The cod was the best I have ever had and the sashimi was amazing. We will definitely be back.
I chose Roka Akor for something different for my husband's birthday celebration. Service was excellent. While it was crowded it was not overly noisy. We could hear ourselves talk. The food was wonderful. We started with Dragon Scallop. Nice presentation, just the right amount to share. My husband had the chef's special lobster tempura. I had the wagu sirloin. We ordered the seasonal tempura vegetables. Loved the eggplant in the tempura. Had chocolate ice cream and kiwi sorbet for dessert. We left very content.
I have no idea what happened to my favorite restaurant. We dined there so many times and today we had a very disappointing experience on Mother's Day out of all days!!! I have no idea whose brilliant idea was to create this special Mother's day menu at $60 per person which was a complete rip-off size-wise, mediocre food quality followed by unprofessional behaviors of managers who at first refused to honored gift cards, then they agreed to honor them and reversed their decision 5 minutes later. No apologies were given. Well, thank you from the bottom of my heart for ruining my special day. My review is minus 5 stars.
All was great. Only negative was that we are being bussed too fast. Sometimes it interferes with the meal. There seems to be some directive to Clear the table quickly. It is annoying at times and NOT good service.
