What User doesn't like about El Sombrero:
I am unable to provide an accurate assessment as I visited on a Sunday, which is buffet day at the restaurant. The lunch buffet offers a variety of options, but I found it to be a bit overpriced for the quality of food provided. View all feedback.
This restaurant, located west of Elk City, is the only place where my wife actually traded her Mexican steak plate for my double chili relleno plate. She enjoyed the entire meal without complaining about it being too hot and spicy. The rellenos had awesome inside stuffing and texture, as well as a tasty outer coating. The sweet tea was a perfect refreshment on a hot evening. I hope they can get through these tough times and extend their hours of operation. Thank you for the great hospitality, delicious queso and chips, and amazing food. It's definitely worth the drive. We will be back soon. Thank you and God bless.
The lunch buffet was mediocre at best. Dining in, the meal was mainly focused on lunch. The average price per person ranged from $10 to $20.
I absolutely love the chili rellenos on Wednesdays and the chicken fry Fridays at this restaurant! The dinner options are delicious and I highly recommend them. The food, service, and atmosphere all receive a perfect rating of 5 stars.
However, I must address the negatives. I am hesitant to write this as I never intend to criticize a small business, but I must admit that the food here was some of the worst I have ever tasted. We decided to share some queso, but unfortunately it tasted like pure milk rather than cheese. I ordered two chicken burritos with queso on top (before discovering how bland the queso was), and my sister ordered the "el special" which consisted of one enchilada, one taco, etc. The burrito I received was extremely disappointing - it only contained chicken inside, with no onions, peppers, rice, beans, or even salt and pepper. The chicken itself lacked any seasoning or flavor, resembling the taste of canned chicken. The rice was also bland, but it helped somewhat to mask the taste of the chicken. My sister described her meal as reminiscent of bad cafeteria food and only took her leftovers out of pity. We ended up throwing away her leftovers at a nearby gas station. We do not intend to be harsh, but we felt it was necessary to share our experience. The food was truly the worst I have ever had. Even just thinking about the chicken made my stomach turn two hours after our meal. We hope this review will be helpful to others who may have had similar experiences. We mean no disrespect, and acknowledge the hard work of the owners, but we believe they should consider revising their recipes.
