What AlastairJ59 doesn't like about The Ship Inn:
We arrived in good time to watch the rugby, when we entered the bar, we were greeted by an obnoxious floor manager, asking if we wanted drinks or food, I said both if you have a table ? To receive a smarmy reply “I have loads of tables, can’t you see them !!! to then be told “ok go out to the beer garden if you want anything” and he walked away. As a customer I felt I was belittled, I looked at my wife and said let’s... View all feedback.
The food was not particularly delicious and the prices were high considering the quality. The atmosphere was nice, but I would have preferred a more tasty and satisfying meal.
The Ship Inn is a cozy pub with two main sections, including a small area for locals on the left and a larger area on the right. The pub has recently been renovated but still maintains its old stone walls and traditional bar. It has a layout similar to the Clutha Bar and is dog friendly, like many other pubs in Melrose. The pub serves a delicious pint of Deuchars IPA, which is a rare find. While the outdoor area at the back was undergoing refurbishment during our visit, it looks promising and will likely be a great spot to enjoy a drink in the sun in Melrose.
Visited today with my mum and daughter for lunch. Staff were super friendly, and made us feel really welcome. Our server was great with my daughter too. My daughter's food arrived first which I really appreciated as it gave me time to cut it up and cool it down before my food arrived. Couldn't fault it at all.
First visit to the Ship Inn today and definitely won't be the last. Great fresh food, very welcoming, friendly staff. Ideal for sports on telly too! And lively outdoor area to the rear.
I can whole hearty say this is one of the best places I've been for food, quality service and brilliant atmosphere. This dog friendly pub could not do enough to cater to me and my dogs. We had a meeting of dog trainers locally and they we're absolutely fine with more than one dog joining our table and even took the time to ask about the dogs. The staff are lovely, they take the time to make sure your ok and the food is good. Even at busy times they let us know ETA on food and always with a genuine smile. The food was fantastic, great portion sizes and large menu to choose from for pub classics and some modern twists. I'll 100% be back again next year.
