However, when I greeted the bar staff, I was told there were no tables available, despite the pub only having one diner and some people at the bar. I inquired about availability for later, but was only given a vague maybe response, as they finish serving food at a certain time. I was not asked if I wanted food or if I had prebooked a table, so we decided to leave. It was not the friendly pub experience I had been expecting.
The location is actually Hawkser a couple of miles out of Whitby on the way to Robin Hoods Bay. Our hosts at The Wayfarer in Robin Hoods Bay recommended this to us and we were very pleased to find it. The pub style is country...classic. per couple for two succulent sirloin steaks served with delicious chips and traditional grilled tomatoes and mushrooms on the side. A bottle of house wine is included in the price and the Shiraz we chose was spot on with the meal. We opted to add a portion of garlic prawns and peppercorn and blue cheese sauces which perfectly complimented our exceptionally tasty food. There is a large dessert menu but we were simply too full to the brim to indulge further. The regular menu is extensive and has plenty to offer all dietary requirements and childrens options too

The meal itself was very good, we all had soup to start home made leek potatoe Very tasty. I had the steak and ale pie delicious. All the meals were very tasty. Would recommend a visit, book in advance as it was full.
We went to the Hare and Hounds for lunch and weren't disappointed. The food was lovely and the atmosphere friendly. Shelley who was working was welcoming and friendly and worked well as it was quite busy, definitely worth booking ahead. We walked along the Cinder...Path from Whitby and followed the signs to the Hare and Hounds. We'll definitely visit again next year when we return to Whitby. Thanks to both Claire and Shelley who made our visits enjoyable.
Lovely Country Pub with friendly local staff and great food! Highly reccomend if you want to take the kids for tea but also want a good pint!
