What User doesn't like about Real McCoy Burgers & Pizza:
The food is pretty good here, but there are a number of cons that make this place negative. Cash only, sketchy neighborhood, sketchy customers, poor customer service and lots of drama View all feedback.
Everyone who is from Scarborough will likely agree that McCoy's is the place to grab a slice of pizza. I've been coming here for well over a decade, we used to come for lunch in high school! It's practically a Scarborough institution. They have 3 options for slices: cheese, pepperoni and veggie. That is literally all you need. I always get the cheese or veggie for some reason. Their slices are huge! Everyone who works there is so nice, you can't get a bad meal here. I hear their burgers and fish and chips are good too but I only ever come for the za. They aren't open on Sundays, just an fyi. You definitely have to check it out! So delicious!
This is one of the best pizzas in the city. No sit down, pure take out, cash only. It's in a nondescript strip mall in north east Scarborough so that keeps most hipsters away. Call in advance.
I had always driven by this place and never gave it much of a thought until one day I was pouring over several video reviews for Scarborough Burger Joints on YouTube and I saw one posted for this place. The interviewer gave reference to Johnny's Hamburgers and said this place was better. So I decided to check it out and see for myself if what the video blogger said held true. When I arrived, it was not busy. It was past the dinner hour and way too early for the late night rush. My first impression was that it was not all that clean inside. It was cluttered and needed a good cleaning and possibly a makeover. It's getting old and it showed. There were four people working there this night and the only common theme to all all of them was that they were all wearing t-shirts with the company's name on them. All of them wore dirty baseball caps and were covered with various food preparations. You could almost tell what each guy did by what was on his clothing. The pizza guy was covered head to toe in flour and the guy that dressed my burger had as much ketchup and other things on his apron as my burger had on it. However the surfaces where the foods were prepared was clean and the handling of the food was satisfactory. I ordered my regular fare that I do at these types of establishments. A banquet burger, fries/gravy and an order of rings and a soda. It wasn't all that expensive. It was under $17 with a bottle of soda (tax incl). It took several minutes to prepare my meal. When it was ready, I was on my way. This is a drive in type location and there is no seating to be had. Now for all those people that say the Real McCoy's burgers are better than Johnny's, they don't know what they're talking about. Both locations source their meat and buns from the same company. They're pretty much identical if they're cooked the same. The only difference between the both locations I noticed was that the onion rings that are sold here are made here. They're the homemade types, big and battered. The batter was nicely seasoned but I can't eat too many of them because they tend to be too greasy. I get sick of them after a while. So all in all, my visit was okay. But I will still give the nod to Johnny's just because of their rings. They're the commercially battered types that are bought frozen. Everything else is pretty much the same. The Real McCoy's pizza's on the other hand looked really good. So I may come back and get one of those and advise accordingly.
This place continues to serve up a great burger. Their grilled to perfection and loaded with classic toppings that a fresh. Been coming here on and off for some 25 years now and I'm never disappointed.Be prepared to line up for a few though which is why I call ahead my order when I'm 10 minutes away.
