Hotel Restaurant am Markt - Sankt Goar

A beautiful restaurant with indoor and outdoor areas that offers excellent beer and wine along with all traditional local dishes. I had this run and it was excellent. Fantastic Rhine river views make the outdoor café seating a wonderful option in beautiful weather.

We stopped here for lunch. They only take cash, which is fine, so we went to the ATM around the corner per the waiter’s recommendation. The atm gave out only 50 euro bills and when I came back and apologized to the waiter that I only had a 50 he was very annoyed and muttered under his breath. He made a huge deal about making change for me but simply used the 20 euro bill my friend gave him to pay for her meal...not sure what the big deal was. For a place that only takes cash they should be used to making change and having plenty of cash on hand.

We ate outside however, the places ozzes character. The location is right in the middle of everything yet they even have a view of the river. Reasonably priced with good sized portions.

After checking into our hotel we walked along the river until we came to the Hotel Restaurant am Markt. Our server was very nice and spoke English. We ordered one of the day’s specials, strips of tender pork with fresh mushrooms in a cream gravy over spaetzel. It was very good and quite filling. It went great with a cold beer. A good meal and a beautiful day to dine outside with a castle view.

I had a non-memorable lunch here. Salad and entree showed little evidence of this restaurant trying to achieve anything above average. Waiters stretched way too thin and thus provided hectic service. Look elsewhere for lunch.
