in the 1970s I lived in san miguel and there was a bakery that had high, fluffy empanadas, but apparently they are no longer. empanadas on loretto has tasty rice pudding and brombeer and strawberry empanadas, among others, and they are very rewarding to visit!...YUM View all feedback.
Mosf the empanadas that I had tended to be a bit thick on the teig and are a little heavy; but these were light and flaky. the fillings were delicious. I especially liked the Italian sausage and cheese and the empanada de cajeta. highly recommended
I do not say that all restaurants are overestimated and expensive. but thanks to a lot of people coming from Mexico City and those who limit their san miguel de allende visit in the city, who do not realize that there are other shops and restaurants that are worth visiting. one of these places is this little empanadas store a few blocks away from the center city. if they are in a budget and/or use all their money for the expensive hotels (thanks to them very, san miguel high time planner,) this is a great price. as another reviewer mentioned, it is only 15 pesos and they get this warm, comfort food. I had a maul, ham and cheese, and brombeer and philadelphia cheese empanada. yum, yum, yum, yum. the owner speaks English and gives a great service. worth a visit!

We enjoyed stopping at this little place not far from mercado. if they are in a hurry (or a budget) on a sunny day, they can pick up a delicately seasoned empanada and drinks here, then they take it to the open area. the fountain, right outside, sitting on a bank and watching san miguel playing. my man had a paprika and a mushroom empanada, I had one filled with huh. These are larger than those found in Argentinia, with a layered crust as phyllo teig. friends have told us that they especially like the empanadas filled with pineapple or other dessert options. our total lunch price, for two with drinks, was under $5.
