What Alfonso Runolfsdottir doesn't like about GLORIA MARIS:
We have our early dinner at Gloria Maris branch in SM North The Block after we have our medical check up at Healthway. I noticed from the menu that they have shanghainese xialongpao so I ordered one. I also ordered Yang Chao Fried Rice, fried...squid, Gloria Maris Fried Chicken, Schezuan shrimps and Cauliflower with scallops. The xiaolongpao is dry and no soup, it is just like an ordinary dumpling. The yang chao frie... View all feedback.
The best place in Manila that offers a wide variety of Dimsum. Great ambiance, location and has parking. A bit pricey though.
Gloriamaris probably serves the best Chinese food in the Greenhills area. You have a choice to either eat at their fine dining area or simply for dimsum. They offer a wide variety of dishes and each one is very flavorful. However, despite having a fair...amount of servers, service is slow and disorganized. Our orders came in trickles. We were almost done with our meal and our order wasn't even served yet; we had to follow it up. And when we were done, it took us times to ask for our bill before someone actually brought it. It was also very frustrating to find just items in the dimsum cart.
This is a popular restaurant in the Greenhills area that serves Chinese dimsum, hotpot and fine dining: Their dimsum is not essentially authentic, but can pass for decent taste. Expect their pork and shrimp dumplings to contain lots of extenders i.e. pork fat....Their baked pork bun is pricier than other food joints, but taste is not original. I like their chicken feet and meatball congee. But I suspect they simply reheat their porridge because consistency is different from what should be if freshly made. Other popular items are their roasted pork asado rice topping and noodle soups. You have to eat them when served as the soup gets greasy after sometime. Do expect the place to be teeming with customers esp. on weekends/holidays. I guess because their prices are still cheaper compared to hotel dimsum. Their hotpot is one of the tastiest in town that I've ever tasted. They offer set or ala carte options. Worth recommending are their freshly-made meatballs and shrimp balls which are not simply bought from grocery stores. Do not order the hofan (flat noodles) as they become too soggy when cooked in the broth. This place is famous for big parties like wedding and birthdays. Their lauriat is not the best in town, but can pass for local standards. I would go elsewhere for Peking duck. Lobster in superior sauce and prawn salad are worth a try very nicely done. However, do not expect service from their waiting staff and/or even supervisor. I suppose they project a certain level of complacency due to their high volume of customers. I have had my share of personal encounters with an arrogant supervisor. Also, their taho (silken tofu pudding with tapioca pearls and brown sugar) is popular but always check the taste first before serving to children. We almost always order the taho when visiting, but one time they served us spoiled taho sour in taste. The waiter refused to acknowledge until we had to elevate it to the available supervisor at that time. Unfortunately, he just retrieved the taho and still charged us for it ?! Overall, despite the hiccups, we still keep returning to this restaurant, only for our favorite items (sans taho).
We had our class reunion recently and we hosted. My classmates chose the place although I heard about it some time ago. Parking was not a problem with garage nearby. We were given an event room upstairs with two round tables to accommodate about was ok, a twelve course meal. Delicious by local standard. Servers were prompt and courteous. They gave us a several microphone, perhaps thinking we will do karaoke. Reunion was a success. They even allowed us to loiter in the grand staircase for pictures. Price was cheap by US standard, about
