I am visiting San Francisco and wanted to share my opinion of this restaurant. Keep in mind that I am not a native, so my perspective may not hold much weight for some. However, it may still be valuable to consider. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Monk's Kettle:
This review is based off of a dining in experience followed by delivery. Dining was a 5/5 excellent service, delicious food (see photos), and nice outdoor seating. Delivery made the dining in exp almost unrecognizable the kale salad we had had previously was just kale with some dressing on the side and missing the toppings. The mac n cheese was cold, sour tasting, and bland and the scotch egg was undercooked and raw... View all feedback.
Being a single diner, we are often left in the dust so to speak. Not here, not this time. Taylor my server was FANTASTIC. Super fun, super attentive and because the place wasn 't busy : , we had a nice chat.I hadn 't been here in a long time. But had a lot of time to kill as my car was in the shop, in the neighborhood.I started with a draft, sat outside and just chilled. Then it got to chilly, so I wandered back inside. Taylor was so apologetic as he said I 'm so sorry, I forgot you were outside . Which I replied, it 's o.k. But he was gracious enough to give me another pour on the house.Because I had so much time to kill, I enjoyed the Pretzel Knot w/the Beer Cheese which I love , both were pleasantly warm. While I was there, the business was quite slow.It 's a wonderful neighborhood bar w/great food, good service and somewhat intimate dining. Don 't forget they are in the hood and pop in more often, you won 't be disappointed. Let 's not let their place go by the wayside, like so many.I will be back, if nothing else for the Pretzel and another draft.I promised Taylor I would give them a good write up :
I have loved this place in the past so hoping that my last experience was just a fluke. I really love the fried chicken and slaw sando but have always felt they skimp on the slaw. Still, it used to be just enough to at least taste it on the sandwich and add some kick. Then, I ordered the other night, and my sandwich showed up with so little slaw it was ridiculous. I had to reheat it because it showed up almost cold, which is not the fault of the restaurant, but as you can see from pics, I scraped the slaw off before the oven and it was a pretty pathetic serving. Once reheated, I put all the slaw on half of it because there was so little and I'm not a big eater. Still could barely taste it. The kale salad with basil ranch was amazing aside from the soft croutons. But I replaced them with my own and was satisfied.
A great spot for a burger and a beer. Grabbed a spot at the bar mid-week and ordered a smoky stout then a local cider- both of which were unique and tasty. The burger was cooked as ordered and was delicious; I'm glad I added on a side of fries too! Bartenders were friendly and made for an enjoyable night.
Huge beer selection! They have something for everyone. The food was ok, but not the reason to come. The burger was overcooked (we ordered medium rare but got well done). The brussel sprouts were completely covered in a sugar mixture, which could be ok if you were expecting it, but i was expecting a savory dish. We were able to get a 645 reservation by booking that morning, and the place was full when we got there.
Great beers selection, great food, great people. We wanted to grab a late night bite on our way home from a day of being tourists and stumbled upon this place. We could not have been happier. This is a great place to grab a late night comfort food meal and a night cap. The place has tons of charm, clean bathrooms, and the staff are very patient and nice.Don't fear if it seems far, it was a short walk from the bus station the took us up to mission and 18th from the end of the pier area.
