I had the southerner omelet and a buttermilk pancake with their real maple syrup. The omelet tasted great and had a lot of flavor packed in with the ranchero sauce and peppers. It wasn?t overly spicy. The pancake was perfect and paired with delicioussyrup. The only thing that was a miss for me was the coffee and potatoes. Both were bland in my opinion. Potatoes could use moreseasoning and the coffee tasted weak. Othe... View all feedback.
Roots Cafe is a beloved Holladay staple and if you want to support a great local business, you should absolutely stop by. For me, personally, the food was very underwhelming. I can 't quite put my finger on it but everything tasted quite bland and..earthy? I *think* just looking at their menu that part of the issue for me is that they might cook more on the organic side so I found myself craving more punch in flavor. I had the crepes which are stuffed with a citrus mint ricotta and topped with a berry compote. Sounds amazing right? And yet, it was very boring. Normally, when a restaurant is using fresh local produce, the flavors might stand out more. I 'm not sure if it 's their sourcing or the cooking but whatever it is it did not have a wow. It 's like every thing I ate needed a little more. Also had one of Eggs Bene with salmon and hollandaise lacked the creamy fatty unctuous quality that is signature for hollandaise.
Good food, with tofu substitutions for dishes with eggs. Wish the tofu had been seasoned a bit more.
Best breakfast in SLC! The wait on the weekends is pretty bad but is always worth it for us. EVERYTHING on the menu is quality and so good, which is hard to find! Great service and vibe too, especially the patio.
Great food all around. From the spicy French dip to the steak and eggs, from the homemade strawberry jelly to the country potatoes...amazing flavors with mild twists throughout. 20 mins but not atypical for a Sunday lunch. Cody is an amazing employee who is always willing to lend a helping hand, definitely a local fav that we will be back to. Atmosphere a little loud inside due to the coffee grinder and 20 conversations at once
Great food. Biscuits and gravy were spectacular and had a nice poblano flavor to them. A bit loud outside being on the road but there is indoor seating which solves that problem. Recommend overall.
