Nice place, we can believe in Ireland. Exellent beers and a fish and chips to die... always of the atmosphere games or orchestras, very nice to discover in Saint Rémy. View all feedback.
We were a party of 9 including children. Service could not have been more friendly throughout. Everyone was delighted with their choices. The a la carte portion sizes are huge. Highlights included a citrus marinated salmon starter, a delicious filet of st Pierre with beetroot risotto and beans, a rich leg of lamb and glorious puddings of all descriptions. There is a large terrace. For St Remy the value is excellent. Thoroughly recommended.
We arrived at around 8pm with a group of 4 adults and 2 children (2.5 years and 1 year respectively). The patio was full so we were seated inside. The inside area was empty apart from one other table. We were seated by the manager. We ordered drinks and food. Drinks arrived within a reasonable amount of time, however after about 30 minutes of not having received our starters, we asked about the status of our food only to be informed that 'a bug in the system' meant that our order had not gone through. This was then processed and after an additional 15 minutes, our starters arrived. The starters were of a decent quality and portion sizes above average for the region. It then took another 20 minutes for our main courses to arrive which were also pretty good. When the bill arrived, which we had to ask for 5 separate times, I was surprised to see that no effort had been made to compensate us for the very long delay caused by the 'system bug'. During the course of the evening, our kids obviously became increasingly restless and were as loud as one would expect children of that age to be. We were very attentive to the children and took the little one outside when she was crying too much. When I approached the waiter to enquire as to why no amendment had been made to the bill, the manager intervened to tell me in a rather aggressive fashion that our children had caused at least 2 parties to leave due to their 'excessive noise' and that 'this establishment's usual clientele' did not expect children's noise' etc, and that I had to settle the amount in full. There was no apology for the delayed order, no acceptance of the fact that the 60 minute delay more likely than not contributed significantly to our children's restlessness and an unreasonable level of aggression, particularly in light of the fact that it was the manager who sat us and who was fully aware of both the time of the evening and the presence of our children. I would have been happy with any acknowledgement of their responsibility for the unacceptable level of service, but none was forthcoming. Typical approach for a business dependent on mostly non-recurring tourist business. Bad form. Will not return, as the food was good, but so is the food in almost every french restaurant that charges these prices.
Visiting Saint-Remy-du-Provence we ended up going to Les Varietes Restaurant expecting to be an average restaurant but food was very, very good. We had one of the best dinner on this trip to France. Among things we ate and loved, fish soup, calamari appetizer and everything else was good.
Friendly service and very welcoming. Popular spot along the main road. Had the cuttlefish, pasta, and pate. Recommend.
Great duck confit, good fish soup, shared starters among the whole family and were very nice. Will return for duck confit alone... and we eat a lot of duck confit!!!
