Bonito Boathouse - Saint Helena Island

Does not even deserve one star. We've been coming here for 20 years. Arrived for dinner with party of 9. Two people in our party didn't have amenity cards so they headed back to get them (5 minutes). We were told they gave our table away once they returnedwith their cards. Rude front desk and management, made snide comments and wouldn't even look at us. Would not recommend.Overpriced and HOT! Fix your air and fix your staff! Restaurant is falling and in much need of repair.

I attempted to call ahead for dress code and reservations for my group, they wouldn?t answer the phone but the voicemail stated 1st come, 1st served. After making the trip we found that this restaurant is inside a gated community, and unless you must havereservations you aren?t allowed to enter. How was I supposed to know that if they don?t answer the phone and I?m not local?

The views from the restaurant are beautiful, and the food and service were good. While the prices may be a bit high, this is understandable given the limited options on the island and the need to fairly compensate the staff. However, I was deeply troubled to notice that only white staff were serving tables while the black staff were assigned roles as runners, in the kitchen, or in hosting positions under supervision— and they were all young. This disparity was glaring and shockingly apparent. I felt embarrassed to be there, especially considering my child, who is thankfully too young to grasp the implications of what I observed. It brought me to the brink of tears. The island is truly a lovely place, and I do plan to return. I believe in potential and remain hopeful for progress in the future.

We had a delightful dinner for two, very romantic by the water. Our waitress was fantastic and provided excellent recommendations. My wife enjoyed the black drum, which was fresh, local, and delicious! I had the crab-stuffed flounder, and it was incredible! We will definitely be back!

I have a food allergy, and the staff were incredibly accommodating to my specific needs. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Additionally, the restaurant offers a beautiful view.
