Je me suis régalée !Une adresse à... View all feedback.
Lunch for three of us, could not be more helpful, happily made dishes not on the menu. All the food was excellent and well presented. Recommended.
Occasionally we have lunch in this restaurant, often on a Friday. It is clearly also a popular venue for others as it attracts many business people and families. It is always busy but not excessively so. Wide range of food, seasonally adapted. Value for money and thoroughly pleasant waiters. A good solid restaurant.
Sorry don't remember what we had but I found the receipt in my car yesterday and remember we had a great meal on a throughly unpleasant day. Thought must add a 5 star review as the food was great and price was extremely reasonable with good service.
After a evolution in management, and chef change earlier this year, this restaurant has changed dramatically. It was good before, but had a hard time finding it's "feet" (menu formerly had a bit of a Spanish slant). The new chef is fantastic, and while French, he also spent some time cooking in Canada. The dishes are fantastic, and varied. They reflect a more international experience, without giving in to a more Anglophone tendency to over-load the plate. On the contrary, the dishes are not only succulent and well-seasoned (featuring fresh local products), but they are all beautifully presented. I've never had anything that wasn't delicious there. They also feature seasonal menus, and have taking some risks also (like a brunch menu, which while delicious, I don't think they've had much traction with in an area with virtually no Anglophones - dommage!) As a regular customer, I have sampled the following: delicious French Onion soup, succulent lasagne di carne (winter menu). On the summer menu, I have had the Greek Salad, the Caesar Salad, the Chicken breast (from Challans) wrapped in smoked bacon with sun-dried tomatos and roasted garlic (delightful!), as well as the duck breast with apricots marinated in Amaretto. To die for. I also went for brunch and had the Eggs Benedict with local smoked ham, and it was delicious! They also feature a varied and interesting wine list, with some interesting choices by the glass. The service is "top-notch", and their desserts are delicious too. I highly recommend going. They are large enough also to do private events. As they are not located in the centre of town, nor on the beach, it may not be the most obvious choice for vacationers, but absolutely worth the detour to their location - Les Halles de Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, a relatively recent renovation of an old warehouse block -- absolutely filled with fabulous providers of fish, a great butcher, great bakery, fabulous fresh produce, as well as several other interesting and delightful commerces. AND, they are located right next to Coté Biere Coté Vins, a very happening wine and beer bar featuring craft beers, a great wine selection and a lively bar, which is always packed. Don't miss it!!
I visited Le Comptoir with my husband. The server was very nice and attentive, seemed knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is nice, and the view of the river is great. The bathrooms were really clean. I loved the fact that it has an open kitchen, and the chef is right there cooking the food. He also greeted us when we came in, which was a pleasant surprise. We both ordered the menu at 27 euros. The food was FANTASTIC!! I had the saumon verrine and my husband had the foie gras, followed by the cabillaud and the lamb shank. The verrine was presented beautifully, and had lots of flavour, and the house made gravlox salmon was amazing. The foie gras was the best we've ever had, and went really well with the quince compote. The cabillaud was cooked to perfection, and I enjoyed the fact that it was served with fresh crisp vegetables. The lamb practically fell of the bone, and the sauce was very rich. For dessert we both had cafe gourmand, which was to die for. It had a mini creme brulee, white chocolate panna cotta with berries, and a tarte tatin. I feel we had a really great meal for the price. The bottle of burgundy we had was an excellent value. We will definatly go again!!
