Contribute FeedbackLocated in Richmond, Academy has received mixed reviews from customers. Some found the prices to be slightly disappointing compared to other options in the area, with oysters and cocktails being labeled as ordinary. The service, however, was considered friendly. On the other hand, a dinner club chose Academy as their venue and were impressed by the food and service for a group of 17. The atmosphere was described as cozy and welcoming, with meals receiving compliments for their presentation. Overall, Academy seems to have potential but may need to fine-tune certain aspects to meet the high culinary standards of the area.
Slightly disappointing for the price compared to other places in Richmond. The oysters were not fresh and had a slight stale flavor. The main was ok but as with everything my partner and I had it was ordinary for the price at around $35 for a main which should have a slight "wow" factor but nothing here did. The cocktails at around $23 were also ordinary. The service was friendly enough but we won't be going back as living in Richmond we can access much better places. To put it simply, Academy is not living up to the ever developing high culinary standards of it's area.
Had a pleasant meal it was quiet as it was a Tuesday nice setting and staff very friendly we didn't have to wait long and it was our last night so we would have returned if we had found it earlier.
Funky and clean and extremely friendly staff! The food was also very healthy and nicely presented and the portions were just right. Nice blues music as well! Great and comfortable place to meet friends.
We are part of a dinner club where a couple will choose a venue every other month or so. With so many places in Melbourne refusing to take bookings at all, or for larger groups, this is quite a task. My husband and I did a trial run at AKAB about six weeks ago and were blown away by the food and service. In discussing our dinner club with Claire we found they were most accommodating. But could they come through on the night with 17 people a la carte? The answer is a resounding YES!Even though the menu may not be large by some standards people were still deliberating between several choices. As we were in the front of the restaurant, and a busy looking restaurant is appealing to passers by, the place filled up quickly. This did not deter the wait or kitchen staff, who provided the highest standards of food and service throughout the night.Every meal was delivered perfectly and not a complaint was heard from any of the 17 in our party. Just got home to a text of "the best one yet" after 4 years of the club running. What a testament to AKAB.Thank you to Claire and Alex and all the kitchen staff, you have done yourselves proud!
We dined here as a group of six for dinner. Food was lovely, service was attentive and prices were reasonable. Cosy atmosphere. Only suggestions is meals could be served on warm places as they weren't hot enough.
