It was my 2nd time and my friend's first. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, from the delicious shrimp and lobster to the excellent service from our waiter, Steven. He was very friendly, efficient and accommodating. I don't know why other reviewers complained about the service. Both times I've been, the service was really good and the food was messily yummy! I will definitely be back for more!! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Captain's Boil:
We went to visit this restaurant today with our friends that visited us from California because we were talking about Boiling Crab from California the other day. When we arrive at the restaurant we wanted to have a good time and have private conversation with friends. The waitress (caucasian) asked us to sit in an open table near the cashier which was set up already and I requested if we could sit in a booth. The wai... View all feedback.
We didn't make reservations (highly recommended), but they were able to fit us in. We only had about an hour and half and that was plenty of time. This place was a little different from what I'm used to, but it seems to be normal for these types of places in Vancouver. You choose your feature, the type of spice, and how spicy and then you add your sides. We had the snow crab, king crab, shrimp (1lb each), corn and potatoes. They give you this huge bib and gloves to wear. Thank goodness! It got messy really fast. The food comes in individual bags (kind of weird, but I'm guessing that it's easier for clean up? Or perhaps they cook it that way?). With the snow crab, we got about 2 legs and 1 leg with the king crab. The king crab was about $40/lb and the snow was $20/lb. 1lb of Shrimp = a lot!!!! We left super full and super happy. For the spice, we choose the captain's boil and mildly spicy. The food was definitely 5/5. The service though....other than the girl who was nice enough to fit us in, our waitress was not so great. She didn't check on us once and we in fact had to wave down another waitress to get OUR waitress's attention so we could order the snow crab. We didn't get a refill on our waters until we were paying the bill. And for that, I'm only giving 4/5. Overall, this place was pretty good and perhaps we just came on the wrong night.
If you like to eat seafoods, this is the cheapest restaurant. fresh and have a variety of flavors. i prefer the garlic sauce since i'm not fun of spicy food. staff are friendly.
We were invited by my friend on his birthday for a dinner on this restaurant. There was a long line/wait but good thing my friend made a reservation so at least the waiting was not too bad. Our server was good and knowledgeable of their menu. Very patient with us it was our 1st time here. The food was great especially the shrimps. A bit pricey though.

Gloves and BIBs on, we chowed down on shrimp in a bag, lobster in a bag (kinda expensive) fried rice on a plate, chicken nibbles in a basket....they were described as WINGS, actually they were parts of wings and really expensive at 1.20 a nibble which is LESS than half a wing. deep fried, uncomplicated food innitFlavours added in bag are over the top strong which kills the taste of fresh seafood imho, and eating out of a plastic bag, with plastic gloves on isn't really MY cuppa tea, but the place is popular...no doubt they have a following in this largely Asian neighbourhood, guess the price is right relative to the 'competition' for 'fresh' shellfish.I'm not a fan of these 'pre made' flavours, and like my seafood to be neutral so I can taste it, then add a LITTLE salt / sauce as I go....but THIS BLAST / POWERhouse inside the BAG ! fried rice was ok, nuthin to right home about...overall value ok if we got live swimmin shellfish, dear if it was fresh, waay over price if it was frozen...hard to tell exactly when being bombarded by the chili dominant spices in the BAGs innit?service super friendly and helpful, place is tidy and comfortable, utilitarian: paper over tables dump the bag full o food out and eat with hands, so we're not talkin fine dining here, value debatable....jury is out, might return to try the crab boil up and ask for zero spices next time.
