We made a reservation at Cinnamon for a date night, and it did NOT disappoint. The ambiance is very cozy, soft, and romantic. The menu has clearly denoted vegan options, and we had a difficult time choosing! The wait was pretty long (about 45 minutes between ordering and our entrees arriving), but they were pretty busy. I mostly agree with the other reviewers and don't have a lot to add: lots of vegan options, not cheap (you're in downtown Rhinebeck, though; look around) and helpful staff. The thing that struck me about the place was that they incorporated regional dishes not often seen in the US into the menu. Most US food is a version of Punjab, or if you're lucky, south Asian hotel food (sambar, dosai, etc). There were flavours and combinations here from other parts of India.
I had this really, really delicious eggplant dish. The sauce was complex and tasty and they made it spicy at my request. On the menu they indicate which dishes could be made vegan. My dish was Bagara Baigan. The other dish pictured (also vegan) was Sabzi Bhaji.
We made a reservation at Cinnamon for a date night, and it did NOT disappoint. The ambiance is very cozy, soft, and romantic. The food was fantastic, and there were no leftovers! Warning: the chai has dairy milk in it by default and cannot be ordered plain. This is not indicated on the menu, and we found out only after it arrived at our table. The server apologized and took it back, but they still made us pay for it!
I visited this restaurant twice, once on a busy weekend night and once on a slower weekday night. I had not ordered from this restaurant since it moved from an earlier location just south of the village. I had not eaten at the new location right in the heart of the Village of Rhinebeck. This restaurant currently offers many items that are vegan or can be made vegan on request! As of now, problems exist with conflicts between the printed menus available in the restaurant, the menu on the website [hidden link] , and the online take out order site. The restaurant uses V for Vegan and AV for Can Be Adjusted to Vegan. The printed in restaurant menus appear inaccurate, with many fewer items listed as V or AV. I have asked members of the wait staff, and they assure me that all but two of the items in the Vegetable Dishes entree section of the printed menu are either V or AV. These include many interesting regional dishes. The vegan Tomato Rasam soup was spicy and delicious. One bit of bad news was that the restaurant was not serving quinoa—an alternative grain on the menu either night. I have abandoned rice as a food that is likely to contain environmental toxins. So, I ordered Indian whole wheat bread to eat with my main dish each time. On Night 1, the pan grilled Chapati was too stiff and thin. On Night 2, the tandoori baked Roti worked brilliantly in the role of a sauce absorber and texture and flavor complement—delicious. On the main dishes, both curries were strong in veggie content. The most veggie packed was my second night entree, Sabzi Bahaji. This Bengali dish included at least cauliflower, red onion, green peas, potatoes, carrots, and garbanzo beans. The restaurant was not able to honor my reservation the first evening, but I may have inadvertently reserved seating for two. I am not sure who was at fault. I was seated in a nice outdoor two person table after a bit of a wait. The restaurant was packed, and other diners were standing on the sidewalk waiting. My reservation on the weekday night worked perfectly. The main dishes were around 15 16, my whole wheat bread options cost 4, and the soup was 6. So, the price rating seems reasonable to me. As an Indian cuisine fan, I very much enjoyed the food. The wait service was great, though it was stretched on the busy weekend night. The setting and interior of the restaurant were nice. I hope to be back soon. Updated from previous review on 2021 06 22
