What Paul D doesn't like about Maya:
This was my first visit here and we went with friends. The first thing I noticed was the interior atmosphere was very plain, almost like a cafeteria. One of my friends offered me a beer. I thought maybe he bought several beers for everyone. Well it turns out he bought the beer at a nearby liquor store as the restaurant does not sell alcoholic beverages. That is a weird setup for a Mexican restaurant. I guess they hav... View all feedback.
Food was authentic and excellent. Service was great as well
Too many things put me off this place to give 4 or 5 stars. But I feel bad giving 2 because I'm some aspects they're trying. I really just wanted a burrito but there's not much that comes in the burrito. The chimichanga seemed like a better option. But I ended up really disliking it and it was hard to eat. Firstly why did this take 20 minutes to make? Secondly why is a fried burrito then smothered or wet? Make it crispy only to then make it soggy. So now it's chewy. Speeking of chewy the pork was chewy. I thought maybe it was freshly grilled because it was a wait, but no its not. Also why is she asking me for a tip when I'm paying for a take out order. I tipped her just because she gestured for it but then she kicked me out ofthe table I was waiting at. Not worth the time or the $15.
These people are family! The food is outstanding too! Clean restaurant, Great customer service… a smile and a good time …. Every time… thx for taking care of our family all these yrs, our dear friends!
Great food, cute little restaurant, fast service, amazing prices. Girlfriend and I come here very often for a cheap date and we always leave very full and happy.
I grew up in Tucson, and I am very picky about Mexican food! So maybe I'm a bit of a snob.My wife was really stoked to try Maya. We went on a Friday afternoon, a bit later than lunch time. Very small dining room I was glad to see that they did offer table service! (It initially appeared that quick serve might be the only option.)I thought the chips were good, although not many of them were provided in the small dish. However, we did get a refill on chips at no charge (I think). The salsa was interesting enough to keep my attention. It initially seemed bland, but it had a sneaky spice that snuck up on you. I'll give a thumbs up on the salsa, just for its sneakiness, which kept it interesting. My wife and I both ordered a cheese enchilada and a shredded beef taco. The combination came with rice and beans. My wife said she really liked hers. I wasn't that impressed with mine. It wasn't bad by any means, but it also wasn't anything impressive. It certainly wasn't anything I can't get elsewhere, however, the prices were fair (considering), and the service was good. I liked the ambiance, and would perhaps pick Maya, over some of the other choices in Prescott, just because it's clearly a small family run business. While I wish I could rave about what I had, I just can't. However, I will go back and try some other dishes, and maybe I'll find something unique or special that stands out in some way. I want something. I can't get any place else or that's better than anyone else's. What might that be at Maya's??
