What User doesn't like about Portsmouth Book And:
Cute little cafe like setting book store with cocktail drinks and a bar to sit and drink. Have different activites going on throughout the week like game night, open mic night, etc. that brings a lot of the young locals to enjoy a sandwich, salad, or cute appetizers and drinks. Drinks and food were good, and service was very quick and efficient. Overall, a cute little place to have drinks and enjoy some relaxing time... View all feedback.

Large small space many books (like a library) for $5-6, great selection of history books and fiction and other arts, beer on tap, live music
I’ve enjoyed coming to small band gigs and days off with friends here for many years. I think the remodel was very needed the bar is a lot sharper, the bathroom system is way better, and the stage’s sound/lighting systems are way improved. One thing I’m not a fan of is the shift from the bookstore cafe hybrid angle to the sitdown meal in a bookstore angle. I liked the freedom of being able to pop in for a drink, sit where you like, separate from your group to find a book you like (they’re all salvage, so they’re dirt cheap! , and then chill together with little commitment. This way now, it feels like there’s more commitment involved to be seated and order with a bookstore backdrop and some of the book sections were removed entirely. I would feel guilty if I popped in for a coffee and sat at a table with a laptop to work because it’d feel like I was taking a restaurant table away from other people. That being said, the food was okay! It’s not amazing and you’d be better off grabbing dinner somewhere else locally. Their bread and butter is book and drinks. I still love this place and will return with friends in the future, but a part of me can’t help but long for the way things used to be.
Game night at a bar/bookstore/restaurant? Absolutely fantastic! This has such a fun and chill atmosphere.
The atmosphere is nice think cozy book shop setting, with plenty of seating. The books are sold at a steep discount. The service... was nice, but SLOW. After putting in our order, it took over 30 minutes for the food to get to us, and when it did... it was just okay. We both had the November sandwich, with the tomato soup.
