Excellent food! Very fairly priced. Staff were wonderful, and very accommodating. We had 2 hungry toddlers with us, and even got a fresh pot of coffee when asked if we could get some to-go after our dinner. Visiting from Ontario, hope to be back! View all feedback.
What Kelsi Williamson doesn't like about Northern Lights Restaurant:
We were recommended this restaurant by everyone we met as the best in town. Perhaps our expectations were too high, but we really felt the food and ambiance were at best mediocre. Both my wife and I were disappointed. Slow service. The restaurant was packed, so to be fair, if we pass through Port Mcneill again we'd give it another chance. View all feedback.
We stayed a couple of days in an resort close to Port McNeill, so we tested the 3 supposedly best restaurants in town: The Archipelagos Bistro, the Northern Lights and the Sportsman's Steak and Pizza House. I take the liberty to write the identical review for all 3. All three restaurants are alright, you don't do a mistake if you go there. Anyway, from our point of view there is a quite clear ranking: #3 is Sportsman's Steak and Pizza. It's pretty good, the steaks are alright, a place to feel good and relax. Try the Mango Daiquiri : Nice views, too. #2 is Northern Lights. A little better and a little more upscale. The menu is a bit Italian inspired, the food is very good. Undisputed #1 is the Archipelagos Bistro: Lots of French and Italian dishes like Osso Buco or Foie Gras, which are even hard to get in European restaurants. Everything possible is home made, even the fried pickles we got as starter were pickled by themself. Highly recommended.

Food was good. Service was wonderful. There is good variety on the menu, but nothing really grabbed my attention as something special and desirable. Hotel guests get 15% off food and 50% of drinks though, which is fantastic.
We had an excellent halibut special. When we asked for the wine list, the waitress was surprised. You have to order a whole bottle!. We did. A very nice BC Chardonnay.
In Port McNeill there aren't a lot of places to eat or stay but I stumbled onto Northern Lights. This restaurant is on the main road coming into Port McNeil. Great service, nice size portions, and great presentation! You won't be disappointed if you order the fresh halibut dinner with lemon sauce!
