Levisham is a charming village with a picturesque main street accessible by a winding road from Lockton, off the A169, north of Pickering. Situated at the top of the village is the Horseshoe Inn, with a well-manicured grassy area in front of the pub where guests can enjoy shaded tables. The interior of the pub has a cozy atmosphere, and the prices for drinks were reasonable. I was served by one of the new owners, who mentioned that they also own the Fox and Rabbit on the main road (A169), indicating it might be worth a visit as well. The menu offered a variety of dishes such as Whitby fish and chips, steak, and cottage pie at affordable prices. They also offer B&B for £70 per room per night, including breakfast, making it a convenient option for exploring the nearby Hole of Horcum. I would highly recommend this pub, especially on a sunny day, as it is dog-friendly both in the garden and the bar.
My husband, dog, and I visited this place last week for our wedding anniversary. After conquering the steep hill, we entered a village that seemed to be frozen in time. It was peaceful and scenic, and at the top of the village sat the Horseshoe. We stayed in one of the garden rooms with our dog for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The rooms had a private entrance at the back of the pub with a patio and chairs outside. There was a small green area right outside which our dog absolutely adored. The room was spacious with a king-size bed, bedside tables, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, TV, and coffee/tea making facilities. The bathroom had a large walk-in shower, toilet, and washbasin, with plenty of space. The staff were all very friendly and despite being young, they were polite, courteous, and always up for a chat. We had dinner at the restaurant both nights and were never disappointed. The menu had a variety of options, all with generous portions at reasonable prices. I must recommend the sirloin steak, which was huge and came with mushrooms, tomato, chips, and delicious onion rings. The desserts were also amazing, with the lime cheesecake being a standout. Breakfast was a pleasant experience with a diverse menu including a full English breakfast, cereals, fruit, and yoghurts, and bottomless coffee, which my coffee-loving husband appreciated. The co-owner, Charlie, was a charming gentleman who always made time to chat with guests. It's rare to find an owner so involved in the day-to-day running of the business, and this personal touch really sets the Horseshoe apart. I can't wait to visit again, it's just a matter of finding the right time. Highly recommended!
The restaurant has amazing food and friendly staff. We dined in for lunch and the price per person was between £20-30. The food and service both received a rating of 5, while the atmosphere was rated a 4.
