What Jérôme Lalonde doesn't like about Strathearn At The Gleneagles:
Delightful staff, but the quality of the main course was poor especially at the prices charged. Food was overcooked. But desserts were excellent. To be fair they discounted the bill significantly. But a Restuarant of this calibre and price level should be able to produce properly cooked food. View all feedback.
Had diner there last week, the food was ok but over priced for the dreadful service we received. One of the staff had only been working there two weeks and was a trainee, another Asian waiter we couldn’t understand and the wine waiter was very casual and didn’t seem to know how to open a bottle of champagne. We would have walked out after the main course but stayed for the Crepes Suzette which was excellent. Would not go again and instead eat in Andrew Farley restaurant or outside hotel
While the food, when it came, was excellent, the service and delivery of food to our table was awful. We waited repeatedly for the menus (for the main menu and desserts) and had to ask several times for these. We also waited an awfully long time for food, and for a table of 4 it didn't even come at the same time, so we had to decide whether to go ahead and eat while warm or wait for the rest of the food to be delivered. We spent over 3 hours for a 3 course meal and wished we had chosen an alternative way to spend our evening. This was completely unacceptable service and although we received an apology we still don't know whether the problem was with the kitchen or serving staff, but the serving staff seemed to be extremely busy, so maybe both! Dining numbers shouldn't come as a surprise in a hotel like this. Very disappointing.
Very slow and inattentive waitstaff. 45 minutes without water and by the time our dinner plates were cleared, not a single person wanted to stay for desert within our party of 13. If you have 4+ hours and don’t care about enjoying the beautiful hotel, then this is the place for you! Boo!!!!
Gleneagles is, undoubtedly, an exceptional hotel with an outstanding reputation. Overall, we had a wonderful stay with fantastic golf, but our dinner was disappointing and fell below the standards we experienced elsewhere. Our major problem was in the cooking of the meat which is fundamental to the entire meal. We ordered venison medium rare but it came well done and in fact DRY.We could have sent it back but that only serves to spoil the ambience of the evening and the flow of the meal. Whoever was overseeing the pass can't have been doing their job properly. Who orders version WELL DONE? it should not have been served. For a restaurant with the reputation of the Strathearn it was very poor.
This is a beautiful restaurant with a gorgeous setting and wonderful views of the property. It is quite a large restaurant. The staff is exceptionally good and the menu is extensive. Lots of good food the enjoy here. The wine and drinks are also some of the best. A great place for a special dinner.
