We decided to try British Bobby after being unsatisfied with other Fish 'n' Chips at various other places in Qualicum & Parksville. FABULOUS choice and so glad we did. The batter is crisp and NOT thick and greasy AT ALL.... and the home fries were the best. We picked up the order as a TAKE OUT and the order was very well wrapped and placed in a handled brown take out bag. When we got home the order was still HOT and... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The British Bobby:
Nice decor and service. Had fish and chips . The fish was a bit greasy. The chips were mostly overcooked end bits and not the chunkier chips as in the UK. The food was hot and well priced but I would not choose that dish again. View all feedback.
British Bobby was an excellent destination for fish and chips. In addition to their other menu items, my favorite was the halibut and fries. However, sadly, the small mall where it was located burned down on November 9, 2022.
My wife I visit this restaurant every year, sometimes twice a year when we are visiting Vancouver Island. It has always been a great place for fish and chips and other English style food. Apparently there has been a change in ownership. Now the restaurant is only half the size but the food is still good. Our only concern is over the prices. I ordered a 3 piece fish and chip dinner to go. I should have asked the price. $38.00 for one meal seems quite a bit more compared to previous visits. We have since found other restaurants we like better will make sure we know the prices if we visit in the future.
Basically pub food. Many years ago it was a great fish and chips place but no longer. The chips were not fresh cut, were overdone and tasted like wood. The fish was ok once you broke through the batter.
My husband, son, and I visited this restaurant. The server's child sat with us the whole time and even attempted to take food from my son's plate. The server did not make an effort to have their child leave our table. The food was overcooked and the fries had a taste of old, fishy oil.
Tonight, we walked across the highway for dinner. The fish and chips were fantastic, and the owner took the time to chat with us. He is a pleasant young man, and I wish him success with his small business.
