Shakou is a great sushi restaurant with ample seating, making it ideal for large groups. While the service can be a bit slow, it's not excessively so. What Grayson Stracke dislikes about Shakou Park Ridge:
Overall disappointment with my dining experience. My wife ordered a Cosmopolitan and received a Dirty Martini. We tried 3 different sushi rolls only to discover very little flavor based on the description of the rolls in the menu. The waitress did return the drink to the bar and brought back a correct one. Additionally, she took extremely long to come to the table and check on the food after it was delivered. Drinks... View all feedback.

This restaurant is so pretty inside and you also have an option of the outdoor patio seating. The food was awesome and worth the price. Delicious Sangria! Definitely coming back!

I had a great experience at the Arlington Heights location, so I decided to try the Park Ridge location for my dad's birthday dinner. The waitress was friendly upon arrival, and our appetizers were served promptly. Since my dad was new to the menu and wasn't sure what to order, he decided to go with the Golden Lobster. Being a big guy, he chose to order two portions, despite the waitress mentioning that it was a large serving. When the food arrived, the portions were enormous, and it became clear that we had ordered way too much. We politely asked if we could return one of the dishes, as I have done at other restaurants where mistakes happen. However, the waitress spoke with her manager and returned to inform us that we couldn’t send one back and would need to pay for both orders, which were $26 each—an absurd amount for sushi, in my opinion. I understand that lobster can be pricey, but I’ve never encountered such a policy before; most restaurants would accommodate requests to return uneaten food. What really bothered me, though, was the attitude of the waitress. I watched her discuss our situation with her manager several times, and it felt like she was gossiping rather than handling the matter professionally. It seemed like the restaurant was more concerned about their bottom line than providing good customer service. Overall, I was very disappointed by the lack of empathy and respect from the waitress, whom I believe was named Elle. I definitely won’t be returning to this location. My partner and I visited this restaurant for a birthday dinner for two, but unfortunately, we had to wait to be seated as they took their time finding a table for us. When we finally were shown to our seats, we ended up on a set of couches that felt more appropriate for a larger group rather than just the two of us. This made enjoying our appetizer difficult as we had to squeeze into one side of the couches. The music played during our meal didn’t match the ambiance we expected of a nice sushi restaurant; instead, it felt more like a nightclub. Our table area became a busy walkway for the waitstaff, who frequently passed by carrying dirty dishes and glasses, showing little regard for our dining experience. At one point, a waitress even spilled residual water from another table onto ours without offering an apology or cleaning it up. This rushed atmosphere left us feeling uncomfortable throughout our evening. To top it off, my partner had requested that the staff sing happy birthday to me, which sadly did not happen. Overall, we were not satisfied with our dining experience and will not be returning to this restaurant in the future.

This restaurant is incredible! Kona, our bartender, is excellent at crafting cocktails. The service is top-notch, and the staff is extremely friendly. The sushi is outstanding, and the atmosphere and clientele are pleasant. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Make sure to reserve a table if you want to sit outside.

After a friend's recommendation, I decided to check out Shakou for sushi in Park Ridge. The restaurant is quite spacious and features a somewhat unconventional Japanese decor, but I appreciated the seating by the windows. We started with the stuffed jalapeño appetizer, which was not only beautifully presented but also had a delightful crunch and rich flavor. For our main course, we sampled several of their signature maki rolls with assistance from our server. Although the rolls were decent, they didn't stand out when compared to other sushi places I've visited in the area. Overall, I don't feel compelled to return to Shakou, as I prefer Blufish.

We came here for a birthday dinner reservation for two. Upon arrival we had to wait to be seated because they needed to find us a table. After that we got seated at the couches. That would be fine for a larger party but for two it’s not practical. Oncethe appetizer came out we had to move to one side of the couches just so we could try to eat comfortably. As if eating hunchedlike the hunch back of Norte Dame is comfortable. The music does not fit the environment. We came to eat sushi at a nicerestaurant, not a night club. To put into perspective at some point in the night a remix of Jeremiah Down on Me startedplaying. Then as the night progressed two waitresses turned our table area into an express lane. I have never had a restaurantexperience where waitress walk with dirty dishes and cups through another parties table, regardless if we were using the othercouch or not. In one of those passes the waitress surprised us with spilling someone else’s residual water on our table. Shedidn’t apologize or even clean it up. I’ve never been more inclined to eat quick, take the remainder to go, andleave. After dinner my partner told me he was upset because when making the reservation he asked them to come out and singhappy birthday to me. Which they didn’t. Definitely will not be returning.

I like decor here even though it is weird that Japanese restaurant sharing one space with sport bar, so they decided to sacrificed authenticity and to provide Americanized experience I am not a fan of it. Food didn’t impress me. Rolls wereaverage I definitely expected more. But I am going to give another try to this place.

Always a deliciously fun experience! However, the booth we were in felt unstable, almost like we were balancing on a wooden plank.

I absolutely love this restaurant! It has a spacious layout with booths, tables, and comfortable chairs, as well as counter service options. The food is excellent, the service is great, and they even offer a gluten-free menu. They frequently introduce new dishes, which is a nice touch. It can get a bit noisy on weekends due to the loud music, but it's all part of the fun!

While the food quality has declined slightly compared to our previous visits, it was still acceptable. However, all four of us in the party found the vegetables quite raw and tough, especially paired with the salmon teriyaki and Chilean sea bass we ordered. The large portions made them cumbersome to eat. We struggled to get our server's attention to request knives for cutting and to ask for water. Our rating stems primarily from the service we received. The hosts who seated us were pleasant and welcoming, but our server came across as unapproachable and indifferent whenever we placed an order. For instance, when she returned to inform us that one guest's chosen wine was unavailable, she immediately pressed for an alternative without offering any assistance. When that guest asked to see the wine list again for another option, the server visibly showed her irritation. This attitude was a recurring theme throughout our visit. Consequently, the tip left by the bill payer was considerably lower than usual, though still above 15%. She certainly didn't earn the standard tip based on her service.

We had an incredible experience at this restaurant while celebrating a friend's birthday. Everything was perfect! None of us are sushi lovers, so we opted for ramen, bulgogi, bibimbap, and shrimp, along with a couple of appetizers and several drinks. The ambiance was beautiful, and the service provided by Juju was outstanding. Considering everything we ordered, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. The only thing I would adjust is that, while the music helped mask the noise from other conversations, it was slightly too loud. We will definitely be returning!
