The Grand Café is the oldest café in England, established in 1650 and situated in the heart of Oxford. I visited during my tour of the city for breakfast with friends and had sandwiches. While it's a very small café, it is beautifully furnished. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Grand Café:
Seems to be the oldest cafe in town and service lives upto its name. But they really need to work on their food. Egg sandwich was below average, though fish sandwich was just about okay. Scones were below average too. Food seemed to be fresh. Service was quick and very courteous. Went there for a high tea in the afternoon. View all feedback.

A much looked forward to revisit did not disappoint. The java coffee is excellent. However the croissant was neither spectacular or boring, but the knob of butter was very cold and hard.
Interesting to see how come this place has got such a bad review but I suppose this place might be overpriced for Oxford locals. I am writing this as a tourist who visited from London, and I got to be honest, there was nothing to complain about. Although there was quite a bit of review complaining about awful service, my experience there was just as pleasant as one of the really expensive tea rooms in London. I was served by a kind waitress. We had Cream tea sets a pot of tea of your choice with two scones) and the scones were decent, made me a scone addict after the visit. Also the decor is just magical that it makes you immerse in to a fantasy of Oxford even more. Again, price might not be as friendly as other places, but I was absolutely happy for the price. Definitely I would like to visit again!
Really cozy place and tasty scones! But the service was poor, we waited for at least 30 minutes for our tea (and even more for the scones), we were asked for our order twice and twice our order was wrong. I'm not putting two stars because the nice girls next to us told us that usually the service is not that bad. In my opinion it is expensive, but my friend told me that it is quite the normal price for afternoon teas.
The tea was decent, the scones were warm, and the Victoria sponge cake was good, but the service was awful! It took 15 minutes from the time I sat at the table to the time the server came to take my order! And another 15 minutes to get my order out. There were three people working that day—they all spoke some kind of Slavic language—all three didn’t seem to like their job and were terribly rude.
