Highly recommended on this ramen restaurant which is running by husband and wife. Ramen broth was not too salty and with handful of umami flavor. Highlight was the barbecue pork which is braised and deep fried to achieve a crunch exterior and yet juicy interior. Bonito rice is good too! Everything here is below 1000 yen and yet the portion is really big. Definitely worth my visit! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Ramen Tokaiya:
Visited the restaurant few times during their business hours but it was not open unfortunately. It seems that the owner could just decide not to open at their free will. For those who plan to visit this restaurant, make sure you have plan B or else your stomach would likely be left empty in snowy and rainy weather. View all feedback.
Highly recommended for its delicious miso ramen! Meat to noodle portion is great! Will definitely come again! Friendly customer service too!
Very recommended ramen shop just 5 min walk from Otaru station. Inside is a cozy fancy atmosphere with jazz music playing. The cook used to be a French Chef so although it took the longest time ever for the ramen to come, you can feel the passion in his ramens. Miso is recommended for those who want a little punch to the taste and soy sauce is better if you want it light. bonito rice is worth the try as well.

We came here hunting for warm food to drive out the chill. We had chosen Tokaiya due to positive reviews from the web and also its convenient proximity within Otaru town. The environment is cosy and the staffs are very friendly. Ordering food for a foreigner is convenient as the menu is simole and is in English as well. Staffs speak some English though not much communication is required as it's not complex to order ramen. The restaurant was not crowded when we visited Tokaiya at 6.30pm though local regulars come by for dinner constantly. My family ordered the Soyu and Charsiew ramen. The ramen and soup stock didn't disappointed us. The Charsiew I must say surpassed our expectations. Pork fats melts in your mouth while soup is not too salty yet retained it's powerful savoury flavor. We left the restaurant as happy and satisfied customers. I'd recommend Tokaiya Ramen to my friends who visit Otaru in the future.
A quaint ramen bar with a small menu. Had the chashu (deep fried pork) with miso ramen, which seems to be one of their signatures and thoroughly enjoyed it. Limited seating and can sell out by 7 sometimes
