If you aren't able to stay at the Gasthaus Stahl, then you at least need to visit for dinner. The chef is masterfully trained and delivers unbelievably fresh, tasty and authentic German food. They have their own farm and many of the dishes are 100% home grown via their own produce and livestock. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service impeccable yet still friendly. Exhausted from our long flight to Germany it was relaxing and so a pleasure with steel. The family-run and personalized restaurant has a wide range of traditional German dishes. GG enjoyed the pork and my chicken with a mushroom cream sauce was the perfect comfort food. We bought a bottle of riesling from her winery that we enjoyed with dinner.
Family business restaurant with great food and feeling!! We arrived this morning in Frankfurt and after some time the exploration of the Rhine Valley landed here based on the reviews. The only challenge was to find it and parking was tight. Our online map has made better when we tap into steel gas house (the inn) instead of looking for steel restaurant. Once inside we sat in a big ballroom that was bright. It seemed even better than the dark main dining area. We had onion soup (which we would normally call French onion soup) absolute perfection! Followed by pork carving and beef roulade and chocolate mousse. Couldn't have been a better experience. If you have a car and are close to Oberwesel, do not miss this jewel of a restaurant.
In a week had two days of high quality dinner. Service was low because too many guests and only two waiters. Otherwise a 5-star rating.
Luckily we found this place for a Saturday family dinner while we were staying in Oberwesel for the weekend. Despite our initial plan to stay at a local restaurant at the centre of the village, we found it fully booked for the evening and had to change plans, which in the end turned into a fabulous experience at this family business. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was very good, exquisitely prepared and of generous portions. Finally, the Riesling was very tasteful. We ended up with a visit to the cellar and buying more Riesling to take with us. Looking forward to the next visit.
Outside of the main touristic path, and can't be told from the outside... This place is a gem to be discovered. We arrived at 6pm, after a few hours walking trough the surrounding landscapes, and got the last table... Next time I will make a reservation, just to be sure I can enjoy again the warm atmosphere of this place. Excellent food: we asked for gluten-free vegetarian and could chose from the menu. All staff spoke excellent English, plus the menu was in English as well. We received soup and 2 other delicious courses. They inspired me for my own cooking at home. The staff was very friendly, also welcoming young kids. There is a playroom on the side, which made for stress-free dining for both parents and other guests. Prices are very doable. Dresscode is casual: we were in our hikingclothes but had switched to normal shoes. Highlights besides the food, is definitively the ballroom, do not forget to have a look and admire the ceilings... Another highlight not to be missed: there is an excellent wine-cellar open for public. You can taste and buy what you like. Bottles start at 5.40 and are excellent qua price/quality. Besides the wine, in the shop there is a choice of jams and honeys that are also worth taking home!
