Lowen & Strauss - Oberstdorf

I can't understand the other reviews, this place was terrible. The dinner here cost around twice as much as our others in Oberstdorf (a "treat" at the end of our stay) and was the worst food. The rough greyish lumps of tuna "sashimi" were very tough and difficult to cut and didn't taste of much, the bread accompanying the tiny oversweet soup was somewhat stale, like it had been sliced that morning and left out all day, the only vegetarian main was a weird combination of "oriental couscous" and "wok vegetables" and was pretty boring. And as for the very expensive "pink roast beef with mushroom gnocchi", the sauce was almost inedibly salty, the gnocchi were tough, the mushrooms were grey and slimy, and they had somehow managed to make the roast beef extremely dry, despite it being cooked slightly pink. Furthermore, one of the waiters called my partner "du" (the familiar/impolite form of you), which I've never experienced in Germany, even in much cheaper more casual places. In short, this place is massively overpriced for the poor quality, badly prepared food that they serve. A real tourist trap; avoid.

Spent light lunch there and enjoyed the stay. Mainly the food was fresh prepared and tasty. The drinks were classy and came quick.

Good food, nice menu and outdoor seating. Classic German fare and fairly good service. Always busy in the summer with large groups, families, etc.

The entire staff from the chefs to the servers was amazing! We were a group of people staying at the hotel and dined for many meals. They took care of every need we could think off. We ate at both resturants and can say possibly the best in town! Charming decor really puts you in the bavarian spirt. Excellent time!

Modern bavarian style and cooking . Great place to eat. Service had been friendly and swift. The tables are a bit close together but we got a table for four without reservation.
