We have visited this pub many times over several years and really enjoyed the ability to combine being a thriving local with handling an influx of tourists previously meals were efficiently ordered, cooked well and quickly and as a result there was a good turnover of tables. This time despite there being a lot of staff around, wiping tables and rearranging cutlery it took an age before the order was taken, longer sti... View all feedback.
What Graham Diplock doesn't like about The Grey's Inn:
Passed this pub and decided to try it. As my wife and I ordered a drink, a local drunk guy at the bar began to be obnoxious, so we took our drinks outside. We saw the drunk guy leave, (driven home in a posh convertible) so we ordered a meal, which was not very good. The steak in the steak pie was tough and the pastry undercooked. View all feedback.
Very nice drinks staff was so friendly never ate here. But had a good experience all round. Very enjoyable, parking was ok and the little village it was in was very quaint. We were staying in a nearby cottage so very near to walk.
We booked the restaurant at this pub over 2 months in advance and had a confirmation by email. However, when we arrived our booking had been 'lost '. We were told that the restaurant was full so we would be served in the bar. Also, they said that they would let us know what had happened with our booking... but they never did. We were seated on a small table right below a TV showing a football match... hardly the best atmosphere for a cordial dinner. The food was OK (nothing to write home about), but the fact that we were in the middle of people cheering on their teams on the TV made it uncomfortable and extremely disappointing. We left immediately after eating our roasts and didn 't bother with dessert. We did send the confirmation email to them so they could let us know what had happened, but didn 't get a response. There are a lot of better restaurants in the area so go to these instead.
We made 3 visits during our week in Embleton. Food amazing, atmosphere great and very dog friendly our 3 Bedlingtons created quite the stir
Lovely traditional village pub with friendly welcoming staff, a nice atmosphere and delicious home cooked food. Great menu, with varied options including a vegetarian menu. Will definitely be back if we’re in the area again!
Proper old village pub. Friendly staff, good ales and very good food at reasonable prices. Dog friendly too, what more do you want? Superb beef and ale pie, with beef that had been cooked a long time to make it beautifully tender; and great fishcakes off the specials board, all at a reasonable price.
