I am a Swedish citizen who lived in Sydney for about one and a half years. Rengaya is hands down the best Japanese restaurant in town. Choose between Japanese BBQ or sashimi. I can recommend the Wagyu beef sashimi, the sashimi seafood platter and the Wagyu beef tartar. View all feedback.
What Bill Powlowski doesn't like about Rengaya:
I visited this establishment last night. Unfortunately the staff don't understand english that well and we had to point out each item on the menu for them to write it down. The salads were good as were the meat dishes. But our BBQ ran out of gas half way through cooking and then everything went cold while we waited for them to get a new can of gas. Probably will not return. Advise you to check NSW Food Authority site... View all feedback.
An amazing selection of food and drinks on the menu. it was really enjoyed to cook our own scallops and garnel on the table and the salmon and avocado salat was delicious.
We ate in rengaya yesterday and started with two gin and tonics. Unfortunately, the tonikum was flat so that we gave it back to the waiter to do it again. not a big thing, I know that tonic goes flat. to my total surprise and shock they both twisted beverages and announced the tonikum was a fresh bottle. fresh or not, the drinks were flat. Message to the manager: learn their employees, show them what good customer service is. the people do not give back drinks from good reason. we spent $600 last night and enjoyed eating her, but we were left with a bad taste in our mouth over this low level cheap rate for her service. it was quite pathetic, especially given the amount we spent. nights are so precious at this time, I will certainly not waste my Saturday night here again.
The restaurant was beautifully renovated, with comfortable seating and modern ambiente. but there were flying in the restaurant, which surprised us on their hygienic level. a lot of offer from the menu, there was a selection of sets and a la carte, offered much flexibility. Not...extensive, but a good selection of Japanese reasons. food quality was average, we ordered bark meat with marble point 7-8, the quality was not there. garnelen were large, but the meat was lacking in texture. recommended, the choices on BBQ sauce as taste of the alternative marination “salt and pepper” was very thin. the service was fast, but not too attentive in a sense that the server came to our table, in which just to do a task, e.g. collecting its finished plate, but without the empty water bottle. it would be nice if there were some information about how to cook, how we could hardly see and judge if eating was ready among the dimming lights.
Recently refurbished and renovated, rengaya offers a great environment with excellent authentic Japanese food, perfectly presented and served.
