Several lunchtime visits, all good. Friendly and efficient service. Good quality, ample portions and good value. Friday lunch main course for just £5 per head. Two courses at £6.95 the rest of the week. Hard to beat when it comes in a friendly, unpretentious pub. View all feedback.
What Curious Occurrences doesn't like about The Phoenix:
Uneasy atmosphere and poor service, recently went in and was stared down by the barman, making me uncomfortable. He then rudely said I wasn't allowed to use the toilet, because I hadn't asked, because he had intimidated me I didn't want to say anything. Will not go in again. View all feedback.
FOR some strange reason I have never been to Gillingham even though I live in Dorset. That was rectified recently when we decided to drive up and spend part of a day there. We visited the town's very good little museum and later had a meal in a cafe before we felt the need for a pint. With no knowledge we had to ask about local pubs and one resident recommended we try The Phoenix because it was a friendly pub where the beer was kept well. They were right on both counts with staff giving us a nice welcome and pouring me a pint which was as clear as crystal and very tasty. Fittings were simple and basic but the toilets were clean and well kept which is all you can ask of any pub you visit. Certainly we'd have no hesitation in coming back to the Phoenix when next we are in the area.
Not a big pub, but very friendly and a good range of beers. Conveniently situated for a quick pint or two before visiting the Tandoori house just around the corner. Nice.
Good value lunch time meal. Simple menu serving large portions. Home cooked. The pub is dated and basic but they serve good pub food. I'm told they keep their ale well.
My husband and I recently had lunch at the Phoenix. The food was very good, staff friendly and the beer is always perfect! We often stop by in the early evening just for a beer. The landlord keeps his beer very well, and there is always a nice selection. The atmosphere is friendly. Everything you’d want for a town pub. Always a warm welcome when you come in the door.
Fantastic roast served up by the new chef Gino. I would be happy to have this on Christmas Day! All for £7.95 . I have had meals out twice the price that are not a patch on Ginos roast.
