Smallwater Estate - NEWLANDS

This winery is a hidden gem nestled on a hillside in Newlands a few kilometres south of Donnybrook. The property was originally a marron farm, vines were subsequently planted and produced the first vintage in 2006. The menu is not extensive but certainly compliments the various wines available, or maybe its visa versa. Proprietor John is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic when discussing the wines and all present enjoyed our tastings. Lunch consisted of "tasting plates" followed by your choice of mains and desserts. I selected the grilled snapper followed by the raspberry tart; delightful, and accompanied by a very drinkable Shiraz. A tasty coffee concluded a very enjoyable afternoon, then it was on the bus back to Bunbury. Kudos to the friendly efficient staff and look forward to my next visit.

Visited Cellar Door and enjoyed every wine we sampled, this was definitely one of the nicest wineries I've visited, good quality wines. The owner was lovely and very accommodating when we decided to stay for lunch and found us a table. Didn't feel pressured to buy wines, took our time, got told some lovely information regarding the winery. It was good to meet Frankie the resident Staffy and see her warming herself in front of the roaring log fire. Lunch was delicious, small menu but good food and price. Will seek out Smallwater wines when needing to replenish my stock!

We visited the winery as 2 couples and were met by the owner John who was very friendly and informative and had great knowledge on the wine industry that he sharedWe sampled every wine produced by Smallwater estate and were very impressed by them allThe 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was exceptional and we purchased some to take homeWell worth a visit we will be back

Lovely welcome by a lovely little Staffy very enjoyable wine tasting with John and topped off with a great lunch including taste plate and great sweets . Look forward to returning soon

Dropped into Smallwater Estate for a late lunch and was amazed by the greeting that we got, was offered wine tasting and then a meal, I tried the ports which were absolutely divine, we sat down and our orders were taken, service was amazingly friendly, we ordered the Marron salad and the stuffed chicken. My partner has issues with garlic and onion and as the salad was made with onion the kitchen bent over backwards to do the Marron with vegetables instead of the salad, the chicken was to die for. This place is a real gem and worth the slight detour off the South West Hwy. We'll definitely be back! Do yourself a favour if your near Kirup, drop in.
