St Arnaud, Alpine Store - New Zealand

Absolute crooks. No prices on most grocery items. They're overcharging beyond reason. I was sold biscuits 2 years past their used by date and had to argue with them for a refund.

Strange vibe inside. Not very welcoming staff. They seem to charge whatever they feel like.. they scan the goods and as they can't find them in the system they make up a price. That's what I noticed a couple of times. So as other backpackers in the Alpine Lodge. Shop in a bigger supermarket before coming to St Arnaud is my advice.

I 'm usually not one to complain but this place was horrible. $11 for a watery coffee and a spinach and fetta roll that had been in the warmer so long that I almost shattered my teeth attempting to bite through it. The fresh fruit and veggies on display were just hours away from what I would consider going rancid. If you value either your money or your gastrointestinal system I would highly recommend shopping elsewhere.

Amazing coffee, thank you And a nice shop with many different things you might need for a hike! Even some veggies and pies/sandwiches, and tables to sit down.

DO NOT GO!! Cafe is terrible and takes forever just to make a simple toastie!! Overpriced, tasteless food and rude staff.
