What Ellen Treuer likes about Sakagura:
The restaurant is easy to miss as you need to go into an office building and make your way downstairs to the basement. Other than the hidden location, the interior is pretty spacious and cozy. I got their chirashi bowl for $27 which was ok but not the best I've had. The sashimi pieces were cut into small pieces. View all feedback.

What R L doesn't like about Sakagura:
Had to downgrade this place from before not only they increase the price on menu they also decrease in quality from the past. Decent izakays food but pricy for what it is compare to competitor (charging michelin restaurant price but not there in quality). Spotty service (said gave me 4 piece of sashimi and also key in that on bill but only had 3 pieces, I pour my own water and sake no server helped when I am sitting... View all feedback.

Great Ambience and great service. Quality food. Took my sister family and aunt here. Everyone loved the food and we stayed for dessert.

Second time there. Celebrating birthday. Excellent food and overwhelming choice of saki. Has that authentic restaurant look (girlfriend spent time in Japan). Not too expensive if you don't drink too much saki. Wait staff extremely helpful. Read other reviews for food choices or just order what's in red can't go wrong.

Very disappointed, we’ve been there before but the quality has changed, not as refined as we remembered. Everything was too salty and the presentation not inspiring. The seaweed salad was ou favorite usually and this time it was not as tasty, the beef was over cooked and way too salty. The cod was okay but too salty as well. Not the experience we were looking for.

We live 100 miles of nyc and make a special trip at least twice a year to eat in sakagura. eating is excellent and the menu is unique. the selection of the interested is not one. I love that this restaurant is a hidden gem and has no problem with making my reservations good in advance. I'll be back again and again!
