Pros: Waiter was great. Food was served quickly, so were the drinks. The waffles were delicious and so were the muffins and ricotta that were served as appetizers. Cons: burger and home fries were over seasoned. The oven baked eggs were fair, but not enough of a serving for a brunch. Eggplant and fried oyster at the bar were good. Tuna was way too salty. What Courtney Schimmel doesn't like about Gato:
We went on Saturday at 5:45 it was the only time we could get . The place was almost empty and stayed that way until we left . The waiter was pushy . I had Halibut which was cooked perfectly . It had and excellent spicy red sauce . But nobody was given spoons and we didn't have any bread to eat the remaining sauce . The deserts were great and the complimentary Sherry was nice . Overall you get 4 stars and if you had... View all feedback.
All we tried was really good and worth it. The grilled octopus was our favorite starter, highly recommended. Great service from staff and excellent setting to have some drinks. Make sure to make a reservation. I would say the only drawback was the price for her cheapest wine (near $60)
We were curious to try a Bobby Flay restaurant and it didn't disappoint one bit. The pork chop was the best I've ever tasted, perfectly cooked. The beef was great, but needed more blue cheese. Dessert and drinks were perfect.
Everything about Gato is 5 star. The wait staff worked like one cohesive unit with the waiter being so knowledgeable, the food runners were fast and accommodating and the back wait staff kept the table clear and water filled, but were never obtrusive. We tried an insane amount of food and can not pick a favorite because it was all so good. We tried all of the bar dishes, 4 appetizers, 4 entrees and 2 vegetable dishes and 3 deserts. I am ashamed to tell you how many of us there were, so that's my secret. When you go, order and share, it is a great way to enjoy the menu. It was all great, but the must haves are the scrambled eggs, octopus, charred corn and the vegetable pallea. Plus the bar items. Go very hungry and be adventurous. Oh, and black pepper vanilla Gelato? Believe me, it works!
Gato offers great ambiance and the food was amazing. We ordered a LOT...scrambled eggs, pizza with wild mushrooms, crispy potatoes, roasted cauliflower, pumpkin-mascarpone caramelle, and porterhouse porkchop. Had espresso soaked bread pudding for dessert. There wasn't one thing I didn't enjoy, but the pizza and caramelle were my favorites. Our server, James, was wonderful! We even received complimentary glasses of sherry and biscotti as we were celebrating our anniversary. Pricey, yes, but it's NYC. I would definitely go back.
The decor was beautiful. A cross between industry and speaking. Very atmospheric. The food is the star. We had the pig stable for our main meal. Massive, beautifully cooked, wonderful side dishes. All three courses were amazing. Thank you very much to our waitress, Maritza, who went beyond and beyond to make the whole night special.
