What LOUISR doesn't like about Barbuto:
It's a West Village experience with plenty of energy. The food quality is unpredictable in terms of flavor but always expensive. Still, we always enjoy our gatherings here which must be due to the light and ambiance. Also, we live across the street so convenience probably factors into our appraisal of the restaurant. Really excellent dinner spot with a bit of a neighborhood feel to it. Sadly did not have a chance to visit the old location, but by all accounts the food here is up to par. Highlights for us included the two salads (the calamari one wow! as well as the gnocchi. Service was excellent and prompt, though it does get a little loud (which is part of the fun . Definitely a good place to go with a group you'll find something to please everyone.
Big room across from Little Island, been wanting to try it for a while. Pleasant experience. Pizza was tasty, bruschetta too. We all had pastas, menu was quite limited, if I’m not mistaken there were only three pastas available, gnocchi, rigatoni with guanciale (thick bacon) and a linguine with shrimp and jalapeños in an olive oil. There was something a little odd about how the pastas were served, quite uneven portions. There were six of us, I think I would like to try it as a couple for a better evaluation. Service was good and food was flavorful.
So delicious! No wonder everyone raves about Barbuto. The chicken is what draws people in but my party didn’t even order it. Don’t sleep on the fried calamari salad, fettuccine fra diavlo, and the hazelnut praline cheesecake. All dishes were great but those were out of this world. Great service and hospitality. Would love to go back.
Jonathan Waxman and team are firing on all cylinders. I basically love every restaurant in the family and Barbuto is at the top of the class. Cheese plate (not pictured as it was eaten too fast) features Humbolt fog, the greatest cheese ever crafted. The wine list is accessible and fantastic along with a sommelier. Again can’t say enough
Pretty good pasta at this restaurant with a view of the Hudson river. It's pretty spacious inside with a relaxed, casual Californian vibe. The service was great throughout the meal. The calamari salad was excellent. The fried calamari worked well with the frisée salad. The shrimp linguini was amazing with its pasta coated with a sauce that had hints of lemon, garlic and jalapeño. The shrimp were a bit overcooked, however. The rigatoni was delicious. The pasta was al dente, and the sauce was packed with flavor. Almost like a pepperoni pizza... but in a pasta form. A great stop if you're in West Village or Meatpacking.
