You know when you have had one of those days where things just don't go to plan. Having allowed two hours for a 1 hour 40 minute journey in a hire car out of Munich airport andhaving waited 35 of the 120 available minutes to collect the car; having driven for 1 hour and covered less than 40km through rambling Bavarian countryside before realising that someone had set the SatNav to avoid motorways; having eventually had my much delayed meeting and then taken the car back to the airport and travelled back into town by S-Bahn, having then missed my 8:30pm reservation by half an hour and then having got lost on the way arriving 1 hour late I was in serious need of some comfort food. Vegelangelo is pure theatre. It is like your crazy Great Aunt's dining room complete with Buddhas, Cherubim. antique cruets, candles, salt rocks and flying angels. The plates are covered in large cloches. An upright piano is equipped with candles. It is eclectic, eccentric and extremely homely, seating a couple of dozen at most.I had been on the go for 15 hours without lunch. To be honest I was so tired I felt quite ill. However, Iris Stegmeyr who is chief cook and bottle washer, in fact the only cook and bottle washer - and waitress and maître d' - took great care of me. I felt that my battered appetite needed a gentle introduction to food again and so I ordered a bowl of Miso Soup with Tofu, Seaweed and Vegetables. It was in front of me in about 5 minutes. The soup was good and flavoursome, the few tofu pieces well marinated and meaty, the seaweed in large pieces and very delicious. Vegetables included very fresh endame beans which were crunchy to eat. Washed down with an alcohol-free wheat beer I waited for the next course. This was Soy Strips in and Onion and Red Wine Sauce with Mashed Potato and Vegetables. It arrived garnished with an edible flower which was indeed edible and very nice too.Chewy soya strips were coated in a rich sauce. The red wine was dominant in the flavour. The mashed potatoes (actually more like squashed potatoes) were wholesome and creamy tasting, just what the doctor ordered. As for the vegetables, the selection was more than impressive. Cauliflower; courgette, mange tout, red pepper, tomato and artichoke hearts.I was persuaded to have a desert. Pureed mango with blueberries, banana and a couple of Oreos which Iris assured me were completely vegan. This was washed down with a herbal brew called "Man's Tea" which was spicy and refreshing. This place runs at its own pace, it has to. There was quite a gap to the main course and the bread I requested never came, but otherwise I can't fault the service. Iris was careful to ensure that everything I had was vegan and was able to help me choose between dishes where I was not 100% sure. The restaurant is all vegetarian, not that many dishes are vegan but there is still a good choice. Highly recommended.
Right in the centre of Munich and close to attractions like Hofbräuhaus and Marienplatz. Vegelangelo is one of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Munich. As it it small and cosy, the owner recommends reservations.
Really nice unique food, great flavours. Lots of choice and quaint personal atmosphere. The owner is lovely and very helpful. Only downside, my partner could have eaten more, but I was more than satisfied. Unfortunately there is road works opposite and quite a busy road...so sitting outside was a bit loud. But inside is lovely, and quirky.
Vegelangelo offers a delightful dining experience with a warm atmosphere and friendly staff. Despite their long-standing presence, their Google reviews were unfortunately deleted. However, I can attest that their vegan truffle pasta is a standout dish, cooked to perfection with a flavorful sauce. Their menu features a variety of delicious plant-based options, making it a must-visit for anyone craving delicious vegan food.
