Contribute FeedbackWe ordered and first no drinks delivery. after 45 Minutes of waiting, we are ready to leave, but put the timer on. 1. food was coming. it has to be mentioned that the restaurant was empty with 6 guests. after another 5 Minutes, the nan was coming. After we finished our chicken was ok, but not fresh) we asked for the ordered rice. In another 4 Minutes, rice has come. ordered the bill and told them to take the rice off the bill. The arrogant waiter answered... ordered are ordered... can't take out the bill. This place is the worth we have been to, normally everybody can make mistakes even after a pandemic, but bad food and bad service. too much... must people warn before they go.
We had really high hopes for this restaurant when booking it, as we had stumbled across a few evenings previous and decided to visit Mougins again just for this restaurant. Unfortunately, mostly everything about our experience was disappointing. We had rang earlier on in the day to reserve a table for the evening, a late booking around 9pm. When arriving we were seated in a tiny seating area round the corner from the restaurant (couldn’t see the door etc), the original gentleman who seated us appeared friendly but quickly changed his tune when we requested to sit on a larger table due to the amount of plates we knew we would have on the table (2x curry, rice, 2 x naans and drinks), he huffed and said but you never sat where I told you to sit (he basically just shooed us away to the corner). The food took over an hour to come and the curry was mediocre at best, just lacked usual curry flavour, making them very wishy washy and watered down. The waiter (young, tall), was very friendly and couldn’t do more for us and kept apologising on the restaurants behalf for the delays and basically been sat so far away if it weren’t for the bad service from the other waiter it would have been 4*. When asking for the bill they got that wrong too, just all seemed like they didn’t want us there. Disappointing as hoped for a lovely meal, but was the opposite
It seems this restaurant brings out the extremes in opinion, perhaps from some diners who are not acquainted with the Indian culture. After starting a conversation with the waiter his apparent abrupt manner disappeared and smiles replaced the straight face. The food was good and on a par with good Indian restaurants in the UK which is always a reasonable yardstick. For the starters the onion bhajis and aubergine pakoras were very good and the naan bread perfect. For the main courses the raita and curried side dishes were well prepared. The lamb biryani was not the best I have had but was not bad. Now, this is not a gourmet Indian restaurant but it is not common to find highly spiced food in France that almost meets the requirements of a curry connoisseur. If you are not too fussy about details and know something about Indian food before you enter, let the food speak for itself. If you can also deal with apparently but not actually rude restaurant staff you can have an interesting alternative from the high end French restaurants in this pretty hilltop town.
I've never felt more compelled to write a review from tonight's shocking dining experience. I'm going to write up the full and exact version of events to try and portray the defence this rude and obnoxious owner thought he had, so here goes...I called up yesterday to book a table for 8pm tonight. I was running 30 mins late so out of courtesy called up to let them know and was told this was no problem, there was still plenty of space. Upon arrival there was a table outside for 2 but after seeing the beautiful interior decided to sit inside so we moved and there were only 2 tables taken by other guests and around 8 free tables available. As soon I ordered a beer and my fiancé some water he had the hump and we immediately noticed his mood changed but we weren't sure why at this point. My partner doesn't drink alcohol not that we should have to make any excuse. We ordered 2 main meals, 2 vegetable sides and a rice which totalled $53.The waiter was very kind and polite. My partner got her main meal and the side orders came which looked delicious. When I received my main meal, they gave me the wrong order completely and although disappointed they assured me it would take a few more minutes. Unsurprisingly after around 12 mins i was still waiting and the waiter came over immediately to apologise understanding that we were unable to eat together and also that the side orders were getting cold. We simply just asked him to pass on our disappointment to the owner who was shirking behind the counter. He was reluctant to tell him and asked us to tell the owner ourselves as he doesn't care. He then came over during our meal and excused himself that the wrong order was put through but offered no apology or solution. At this stage any form of acknowledgment or gesture offered (even small) would have been gratefully accepted but nothing was offered and he continued to argue his defence to us, blaming his waiter. We didn't want to make a big deal out of it so just continued to eat and the food was sublime. The waiter could see his manager and the restaurant owner ignored the problem and once again came over to apologise. It was evident that he gets annoyed as soon as no alcohol (ie expensive wine) is not ordered.20 mins later and after reading other negative remarks I decided I was going to get up and speak with the owner directly privately outside to politely explain what we were unhappy about. I walked outside and he followed. He wanted to speak with me in front of the guests outside and I said 'I have respect for him and his guests so let's speak out of sight.'I simply said that I was disappointed for the reasons above and as a restaurant owner he should show more respect to his customers and that it was him alone that created this bad atmosphere. We spent good money and fully justified an apology. I was told...'First you came and sat outside then inside' (big deal!!!) and that we took up two tables instead of one-I've never heard so much rubbish and he continued to defend himself siting the reason that because he explained the mix up it was ok.I spent a couple more minutes trying to make him realise that just like he expects to be paid for food given, we also expect a minimum service level which we felt we didn't receive. The fact that the food was late ultimately wasn't the issue here but it was more so his reluctance to apologise and ruin the atmosphere of our meal.It was then evident this irrational man won't understand and said 'you will pay for all your food'. I was infuriated and replied saying i will decide what I will pay.We went back inside and at this point all customers outside looked shocked at his response but they wouldn't believe what followed. The bill came and i still gave €50 of my €53 bill. If I had a €5 note i would have only paid €45 so he got more than he deserved.Me and my partner walked out and he followed us demanding we pay the €3 balance shouting at us to never come back and that he doesn't need customers like us.He was willing to make a scene in front of all his other guests over €3s instead of accepting it and shutting up. At no point did I raise my voice when speaking with him but I've never experienced such horrific service.Unless you go there and order a lot of alcohol be careful about eating here and even if you do be aware who you are dealing with as you may find your entire evening ruined by such a rude and bad mannered individual. He is blessed to have a business in such a high end area around all the lovely art galleries around and doesn't have the customer service skills to run a business here at all.I'll never recommend anyone to go there and have been recommend that others consider a lovely Indian in Cannes instead called Taj Mahal or another lovely new Indian restaurant in by one of the port areas in Antibes instead.Shocking owner!!!
I often visit indian places as it is one of my favourite foods. The food was really good at this place, but most of all, the staff was smiling, in a good mood and smiling. If I have a badly mooded waiter, it can really ruin my meal.. in this case, the staff was so friendly/happy that I had a splendid time & stayed longer for drinks. dishes are around 14euro - wine and beer are around 6euro.
