A quick stop after a walk along the nearby canal. Very small pub, lots of regular locals. Plenty of room and tables outside so took drinks there. Great beer, good prices. Staff were friendly, but maybe a little quiet with tourists. View all feedback.
What S ABSussex doesn't like about The Corn Exchange:
We stopped here for a drink whilst hiking one Sunday lunchtime. Our joy at finding a pub was lessened when we approached to find a lone smoker blocking the main entrance. We wondered if it was closed. We ventured to the side door and were pleased it was open. The bar maid lacked any charm at all and everyone in the bar stared incessantly at us. We sat outside and had our drinks whilst several drinkers came outside to... View all feedback.
What an excellent visit we had! The bar staff and landlady were so welcoming and funny, we could have stayed for hours. Dogs welcome too, perfect stop off on our canal boat holiday, would most certainly return.
I received a very warm welcome from the hostess, who made me feel very welcome and comfortable. She was very friendly and I felt very happy, as if I were at home.
Sadly, the kitchen here was temporarily closed due to lack of staff but the landlady was so incredibly helpful we will be back for a meal as soon as we can. She even rang around the local pubs to find one which could do food for six of us. You cannot get any more amicable or helpful than that!
Unfortunately due to an ongoing police enquiry I am now leaving a review to say how ashamed that a man the size of Ken the owner, could violently attack a young couple (I am late twenties) for an opinion unfortunately he didn’t like. Racist bigot idiot who had too much to drink in his own pub. My partner has scars all on his neck from where Ken had dug his nails into him. Luckily my partner and I had only 2 drinks that night and my partner was very calm, didn’t make one attempt to attack Ken back but instead asked for us to be let go. The bar lady who was on the larger side, had my arm gripped so hard not letting me help my partner who was pinned against a door by ken. I was so shocked and scared that someone could be like this, especially coming up to a woman so aggressively putting his face against mine spitting in my face. We are new to the area from Birmingham and were repeatedly told we were not welcome here that we were not from here. AVOID.
We stopped by this restaurant on Monday evening after returning a rented boat. We had originally planned to dine at one of the village pubs, but this was the only one open. Although they did not serve food, the landlady kindly arranged for us to order takeaway and have it delivered to the pub. Both the landlady and the locals were extremely friendly, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the pub. COVID-19 safety measures were in place, making us feel very secure.
