After that, we didn't see anyone for the next two hours. No one checked in to see if everything was alright or if we needed more drinks—there was complete radio silence. We weren't able to finish all of our food and wanted to ask if we could take the leftovers home, but we couldn't find anyone to help. In the end, we had to take our cake stand with us as we searched for someone to settle the bill.

What KimC doesn't like about Afternoon Tea At Makeney Hall:
One positive note was the edible birthday plaque presented to my friend, which was a nice touch. However, as we were leaving, the server disappeared, and the two other tables were not acknowledged or thanked. When we finally managed to find someone at reception to ask if we could order a drink from the bar (where the shutters were down), we learned that they had run out of Prosecco, which was featured in their drink... The building and grounds are lovely. The afternoon tea was ok food was quite nice although clearly it had all been prepared earlier and refrigerated; the food came out very promptly and the sandwiches were really cold. The scones were not great overbaked, different sizes and dry. Sponge cake was nice as were the lemon posset thingies. Service was friendly but there was no one to greet us when we arrived and we were left alone for long periods of time until someone came to cover for the waitress who apparently had left to deal with a water emergency . Having said all that, the price is not extravagant so overall value for money was ok.
In the atmosphere and in the service the hotel was extremely quiet, no music playing and coworkers who seemed to bring tee, but after asking for the sandwich selection said they were already made and fresh without dressing, i.e. senf should be made. I thought we had delivered them to satisfy the request. another offer to tee has been made, but no talk or more pleasant. nice touch was the edible birthday table that was presented to my friend. when leaving the other two tables were not thanked or spoken when the server had disappeared. after we found someone (we had to go to the reception) asking if we had a drink from the bar (the blows down) we were informed that they had run out of prosecco that was in the advertised drink of the month, so we had another choice not the biggest experience
Lovely sweet things. Fabulous surroundings. Sandwiches were okay and staff disappeared, only asking for about a top up of tea once. But the surroundings were superb and the cakes delicious.
Ive emailed the Hotel as i was very disapointed in the poor service we recieved with our afternoon tea and for the price i paid i was very unhappy this was for a 50th birthday and as i got married here 2 years ago i thought it would be a lovely afternoon but the service was very poor
Lovely location, attentive service and beautiful scones and cakes. My only criticism was that the sandwiches were a bit basic the fillings weren’t very exciting, and they used ordinary shop sliced bread. Would have been nice to have fresh bread and more fancy fillings. Would still go back though.
