Dont overthink it. Its gelato which means hand worked. Its certainly unconventional, just a hop from Lincoln Park. The dozen flavours are made from Mexican ingredients, each offering a different colour, flavour and texture. the joint is a treat in itself. Saw some gross mountains on cones walking outta shop. my treat was a cocoa cone with guava ice cream topped with a crown of nutmeg crumble. Eat your heart out. You... View all feedback.
What mavikka doesn't like about Gelatoscopio:
Extremely overprized for a scoop sized for ants. I am mexican, but live in Europe, and wanted to try something different. You don’t even get this consumer abuse in Italy. I seriously don’t understand why it has 5 stars. Also, you can’t get toppings if you order a small cup? Why? So, overall, wouldn’t recommend it, and don’t spend your money here. View all feedback.
A hip place worth a visit for a sweet treat. My favorite was the Key Lime pie, very fresh and novel flavors/textures for ice-cream
I had the cookie mania and didn't find it at all exciting. My friend ordered the carajillo one and that one was truly bad, poor boy. Not so recommended, although the concept is cool and the location in Polanquito is great. We just went there because Roxy was packed.
We visited this place on a recommendation from a friend. They just opened in November 2016, so for a new place they had a pretty polished approach. The shop is trendy and the decor light and casual. Their menu is confusing and hard to read while visually appealing, it blends so well with the decor that you at first can 't find it. Then you realize that it is behind you (as you face the cashier) making it difficult to read it and talk to the order clerk at the same time. Also, this is a unique (not sure if it will gain traction) approach to gelato. Rather than have a variety of flavors to choose from, and then some toppings for those who like added calories, they simply have four or five mixes to choose from. Permanently it seems...since the menus are a permanent part of the decor and couldn 't be easy or inexpensive to replace! It wasn 't really clear what we would get...and my assumption since it was a mix, and gelato, that it would be in a cup...it was in a waffle cone (tasty), making it difficult to eat. They did give me a cup when I asked, but the preparer looked a bit miffed that I would even ask! The prices are lofty $95 pesos for the mix and it was small. I 'd say it would be reasonable at half that price. But the neighborhood is trendy so their rent must be sky high...and with a limited menu, they have to get ya while you 're there. Personally I found the lack of flexibility to order a simple cup of gelato in a single flavor a factor that would probably prevent me from visiting again. But they are new...maybe they will dial in their formula and I always wish new businesses the best as they get through the difficult first few months/years of finding success in their market.
