Good Chinese but expensive... Great atmosphere...one of Miami's trendiest ... Try the fiery beef and Mr Chow's noodles. The music is a bit too loud
The Miami Beach franchise of this London based concept is housed on the ground floor of the hip W hotel. I must say that, prior to visiting this restaurant, I hadn 't heard about Mr Chow in London, but it would appear this was one of the places to be in London in the '90s. <br/ <br/ The restaurant is very popular and was full on Friday night. The ratio of waiting staff to customers is impressive (see below for the quality of the service, though).<br/ <br/ We ordered some cocktails (the Pineapple 100 and the Monarch, which were both nice). For food, we took our waiter 's advice and ordered the two course menu at $65 per person. We got the glazed prawns with walnuts, the lobster vermicelli, the signature green prawns and the duck. The two starters were the better dishes of the night. The duck wasn 't on par with some of those I 've had in London, and was served with the bones still on the plate (including some splinters that I bit on). The green prawns were spectacularly green, but not particularly tasty. The meal deal also included two sides egg fried rice with prawns and bok choi (both good). The portions were generous, so the meal deal turned out to be a lot of food. <br/ <br/ Now, while the food was quite good, the service was not particularly impressive. The waiters seemed to rush us they took our starter plates away while we still had some starters in front of us, and almost served another table 's main course to us. A cocktail my wife ordered took ages to materialise etc.<br/ <br/ I wasn 't particularly impressed by the fact that only Western style cutlery was available. While I appreciate it 's easier to eat rice with a fork, the same could not be said about the nice vermicelli we had for starters, which were screaming for chopsticks!
Not to shabby... Mr. Chow......... Hmmmm... If you don't have the money my advise is don't go! However, the food was very good and the service was good also. I have no complaints. The best thing on the menu that I enjoyed was the Filet Migon, Glazed Prawns with Walnuts, and the String Beans. The drinks was very good also. I went with the family and enjoyed my self. A must do again.
Go somewhere else!!. What a terrible disappointment. Am guessing the other Mr. Chow Restaurants have a different customer service culture but as this was my first MC experience, it would be difficult to make the decision to try again! As a business traveller, I was by myself after a very long day and went to one of the hotel restaurants-Mr. Choy. The hostess asked if I had a reservation and I replied that I did not but also said I was happy to sit anywhere. They said I could be seated in the front away from everyone or in the lounge where I would have a better view of the 'action '. I didn 't care but chose the lounge. I then tried to order but was told that I had to order two orders of vegetables or any type of rice because the owners wanted to discourage individual diners who were women....I asked him if he was sure and he said 'I am guessing that is what they think because that is hat I have been told '. He then offered to talk with the manager to see if I could possibly order one order of food...I said to please not bother, I just wanted to have a quick dinner, not an issue....I just could not imagine in this day and age that I would be descriminated against in a high end, hotel restaurant because I was a female business traveller who happened to be dining alone.Mr. Chow, you may want to re-visit the culture you are promoting as a business owner on the US. There are many women who would be potential customers....I was one of them.
Great service!. The food and service was amazing! I like authentic chinese food and I was pleasantly surprised with how flavorful the food was...Best service and great over all experience....I don't get what all the bad reviews are about...If you don't want to pay $250 for dinner... Don't go to The W!
